Golf is desperate for a hero and it can't seem to find one aside from Mr. Woods.

Lorena isn't going to do the trick and neither is anyone else out there.

Too bad. It's pretty sad to see this game fall apart because it can't just accept the fact that there are a lot of talents out there already. Golf is just like the rest of the entertainment business : let's look for the NEXT BIG THING instead of promote the good stuff we already have.

Game falling apart ?? Maybe reconsider after the Open, and the Ryder Cup. Yes, the limited events that Mr. Woods does play every year are top notch, no argument. I watch for the golf shots and the decision making, reality TV.

Don't get me wrong, I don't take anything away from Tiger or what he has meant/brought to the game. But I'm still enjoying watching the coverage and actually enjoy it a little more when Tiger's not playing. At least we don't have to sit through 3-4 hours of detail (or rebroadcast detail if he played prior to airtime) of Tigers every move on the course. I mean, they are other golfers in the mix here. I don't blame Tiger for any of this. I completely blame the over hyped media.

You have to look at the country in general. Golf is not a huge cash cow sport. Tiger is the face of golf for this country, but it's not only because he's the best of our time. He's a great face for the camera. The general public doesn't care about golf, they care about Tiger. The general public doesn't care about soccer, they care about Beckham.

Enjoy the game, don't get caught up on what the masses think.

We could gripe about this topic all day long, but it won't do any good. The United States, as mentioned above, is always looking for the next big thing. It's ok to do that, but it sucks the life right out of the above-average talents.

I enjoy golf whether or not Tiger is playing, and I always will. However, things are definitely better when Mr. Woods are around. He is the best golfer on the planet, and there is no denying the great shots he produces on multiple occasions.

Hopefully for the sake of ratings and stuff, the next big thing will come along when Tiger is still playing or shortly thereafter. Golf went into a slump after Palmer, Nicklaus, etc. but it bounced back in a big way when Tiger came around. We can only hope another golfer will come around and have a solid chance to break Tiger's records. That will keep the media's attention on our great game, and it will keep the golfers' salaries where they belong.

I'm guilty of looking for the next big thing, but is it possible to do that as well as appreciate the current talent? Think about that.

I can understand why golf wants another hero aside from Tiger. He is the wave upon which all that those make a living in golf ride on. Even those that don't make a living in golf but have a hand in it owe Tiger. He IS the straw that stirs the drink and the next year or so that he is out is going to be an eye opener and glimpse into the future as to what the entire golf industry will be like without him involved in it. Welcome back to the real world.
