If a club has a face angle of 1* open or 1* closed... How much difference do you think that has on the ball flight?

Is it possible to have it squared?

You mean if it's built to be one degree open or closed or whatever, not if it happens to be open or closed at impact, yeah?

It's probably possible to have it "squared" up, but that might depend on a lot of things. I'm not sure. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone changing the face angle of their driver (I'm assuming that's what club you're talking about). Some clubs come in a "standard" (anti-slice, closed face usually) config and a "tour" version (open or square face).

Its a little bit complicated, but face angle can be changed about a degree one way or the other. From what I know, it works best if you have a .335" shaft tip in a .350" hosel, which allows the face of the club to be twisted a little bit. I know that it is done on occasion by people in tour vans.

The club I am talking about is a 3 wood that only comes in a 1* open face. Just worried about the affect on the ball flight and if it would be possible to close it if need be.

I don't think you'd want a 1° open face unless you are a very strong player with a natural draw. I believe (someone correct me if I am wrong) that the open face will counteract the hook a small amount, keeping it under better control.

I think I would avoid that club and not try to tamper with it. There's too many other options that would fit you better out there already.

Thats why I would want to have it squared... if it were 1* closed... I could live with that.

One degree's almost not enough to worry about. If anything, it'll let you close the face without much fear of the big hook.

I play a fade, particularly with the longer clubs, and I like an open face as well. If you're playing to eliminate the left side of the golf course, then an open clubface will do that. So, to speak to golfunit's thought, it's often just the opposite. Faders often like a slightly open face - more assurance the ball will fade.

I always play my clubs by opening the face or slightly closing the face. My drivers, irons and even wedges when I am chipping. The draw face on some driver help a slicer and an open face driver helps you square the face for the hooker.

With the open face 3 wood, how do you hit the ball? have you tried closing the face to square? My 5 wood has a closed face or I have to open the face before I hit the club to prevent from hooking the ball.

I open the face of my drivers to eliminate the left side.
I open the face of my irons so that I can take something off the club by opening the club face and aimming left.
I sometime close the face of my wedges to get a lower shot with more roll.
