Well, the fam is slowly settling down in Louisville after the last decade in NYC. One immediate bonus is cost of golf. The Louisville Metro courses average 12$ weekday walking.

I tried out Shawnee, and its fine--great place to score low. Interesting Shawnee trivia: hole #7 has the I-64 overpass behind the green. From the back tee of the short par 4, the overpass is 355 yards away, and about 40 yards high (that's a guess).

ACCORDING TO LEGEND, Tiger played there in '95 and hit a ball onto or over the overpass for the gallery of kiddies. I find this believable numberwise, but would love for someone to verify. . .

Looking forward to trying Seneca this week, and Old Capitol in the near future. Again, if you are walking these courses are CHEEEEEEEEP!!!

Any suggestions!?

Shawnee is a fun course and an easy walk. Seneca will be a little more challenging. A lot of ground to cover walking from 1 to 2 and 11 to 12. Seneca is also the most heavily used metro course we have I beleive. Trivia for Seneca is that Gary Player won his first tournament in the U.S. at this course in 1957 or 1958.

Charlie Vettiner is probably the best of our metro courses. The walk to 17 and 18 can be a little tiring but it's a great course.

Quail Chase is a great course with 27 holes. Nevel Meade and Heritage Hills are also terrific courses to play, more expensive than our metro courses but most are.

Hope you enjoy the local courses. We are fortunate to also have great tracks within a short drive of Louisville in Lexington, Cincinnati, across the bridge in Indiana, etc.

What are the prices like in Louisville area. I have a son that lives there and may play in there in the future.

Most are around $12.00 to walk or about $30.00 with a cart on the weekend. Great value and some good options.

Quail Chase is $26.00 to walk during the week and $34.00 on the weekend. With cart it's $36.00 and $44.00. Nevel Meade is $46.00 with cart on the weekend and Heritage Hill is $59.00 on the weekend with cart.

I live in the area. Just up I64 a bit. Anyways, Old Capitol is my favorite course. I play there a lot (it was my golf team's) home course for a couple years). Couple of other courses to try, if you are willing to drive a bit are Sultan's Run in Jasper. Old English Golf Course is a nice course, young so not in the best of shape, but its really coming around. Then of course, you have Covered Bridge, Champion's Pointe, and Chariot Run, around the area. I have not played neither of Fuzzy's Courses, but I've heard a lot of good things about them.

Also, if you are looking for a playing partner, let me know. I will be around the area for the next month, then back to school.

Dude, thanks for the info! I PLAYED OLD CAPITAL TODAY and I FREAKIN LOVE IT!

Don't just settle for the Metro Parks courses. Vettiner has become the go to course of all the muni's. There are also some great public courses that are a bit pricey. Nevel Meade is a pretty nice course.

You might want to look into a country club membership. There are quite a few affordable memberships available in town.

The Tiger Woods story is that he hit the ball from the practice area. I had a friend bust one up onto I-64 just to see if he could do it. It scared the crap out of me because the thought of hitting a car going 70 mph was pretty bad. I think it is more urban legend because it would be a pretty stupid thing for Tiger to do.

    • Got it - so you pick your favorite and then Jayson picks his favorite of those remaining and then Tyson goes twice, then Jayson and finally you? Or something like that anyway Are you doing a weekly release schedule?
    • This weather is curing my winter depression rapidly. “Dugnad” today. A Norwegian word for community or voluntary work. Many clubs has one in spring and one in autumn where everyone is invited to help with various tasks on the course to prepare it for the season or winter. Lots of trees and branches were cleared today. Opening in March is not unlikely at this rate. 15 C and sunny could be mid summer.
    • It’s a start and it’s enough to keep me motivated while I work on consistency, my short game, putting, and correcting my slice. Thanks. Sound advice - I like it. I went ahead and bought a couple spiffy newer Callaway woods on eBay to try out so I won’t have a mixed bag, but I’ve been thinking the same thing and I won’t be letting go of my old Taylormades any time soon.
