Right now, I have two drivers: Titleist 905T 9.5 * and Callaway BB460 10*. I hit the BB460 way too high, but I am more consistent with it. It has the stock Aldila NVS 55 shaft while the Titleist has the Grafalloy Blue shaft. I am wanting to put a new shaft in the BB460. I was wondering how much of a difference a shaft can make on spin and launch angle. I have a swing speed of about 105 mph. Also, what shafts should I consider.

And while I'm at it, what difference do different shaft options (torgue and stiffness, etc.) have with irons and wedges. Is there a way to increase spin on irons with different shafts?

if you like your BB460 then you might want to try a heavier shaft. this will keep it lower (the nvs 55 is VERY light!!!). I believe the shaft plays a VERY important part in getting the correct launch conditions. i have never used one of the launch monitors that golf shops now carry, so you may look into that and see if that can stear you in the right direction. as for your second question. it plays a factor in any golf club...woods or irons. a lot of guys are using the "Spinner" steel shaft in there wedges, made by Royal Precision (Rifle), so there may be something to that shaft of the wedges.

How does the weight in the shaft play a part in launch angle? I thought the torque, kick point and flex would play that part? Or does the weight allow the shaft to have these properties? I'm very intrigued by all of this!

I'm also thinking i need a new shaft: I had a great driving day this past weekend, with drives consistently in the 280 range, but they were a mile high it felt. I'm wondering if I'd get a better carry if my trajectory were lower on impact.

My current is R7 9.5 + ProLaunch Blue R65. No idea on my swing speed. Thoughts?

Both of those shafts you have listed are meant to give a medium trajectory and "similar" overall weights (listed as only 8gms difference) so providing the loft of both drivers and the head type is similar which they sort of are they should launch reasonably similar. My best advice is to take both drivers to a clubfitter and get on a launch monitor, that is the only way to find out what is really happening without just guessing. Probably the first thing he will do is actually measure the loft of both drivers, as they do sometimes vary a bit from what is stamped on them.

If you really just wanted to try a low launching shaft, the Diamana White Board is probably about as low as you can go without getting in to anything really exotic or priced at the ultra high end of the scale.

    • I hope you don't mind me raising this one from the dead. I got shortgamechef's video access thing for a few months in 2024. I watched his yip fix videos (the general gist is similar to the first video above, but with a lot more detail) and it made a lot of sense. I was working on it in my backyard off a mat for a while and my yippy thing was mostly gone. Aside from anything else, the flop shot using that technique is so easy and controllable. But I got onto a golf course for the first time of the year and found myself by the green on a downslope with the ball sitting down a little in the rough and I was, not to put too fine a point on it, f***ed. Shallow is all well and good from a good flat lie and I understand it, but you can't make that your be all and end all. I still don't know if it's a good idea to use steep all the time or just when you need to. I have a hard enough time with one technique, let alone too.  Just got a pitching skillest lesson with Erik and unless I misunderstood things some, he wants me a bit steeper. @iacas - where do you fall on the steep vs shallow argument and how do you vary it according to need?
