Syracuse, NY area courses

I'm going to be in the Syracuse area near the end of July (23rd-27th) for a few days. I'm going to play a round at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, they have one of the first courses that RTJ Sr designed there. I was just wondering if anyone else had any input on any other quality courses to play in the area. Its hard finding information online about golf courses, at least player reviews.

I'm looking for good value courses, I don't mind spending $50-60 a round, but I don't want to get up near the $100 mark.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Green Lakes is definitely a great value, but it's really short. It was a great course years ago, but the technology sort of made the course obsolete. I'd like to mention the following:

Radisson - in Baldwinsville Foxfire - in Baldwinsville Rogues Roost - in Bridgeport Links at Erie Village - East Syracuse All of the others are either private clubs are sort of out of the way. Out of these four, I think Links at Erie Village is the best, followed by Radisson, Rogues Roost and Foxfire (although I like Foxfire's layout the best). The great thing about Central NY golf is that it's cheap and you can walk if you choose to. 18 holes and a cart at Links at Erie Village is only $46. Foxfire used to have specials for $25 gets you 18 holes, a cart, and lunch. Rogues is somewhere between $25-$50 w/ a cart. And Radisson should be about the same. 3JACK

Thanks for your information, I'm looking forward to playing the Central NY courses, should be a change from what I'm used to dealing with in East Tennessee. The course I play most often at, the fairways are as hard as concrete, gets you lots of roll of the driver, but makes it hard to hit solid consistent iron shots.

I know Green Lakes is kind of short, but the bunkers and changes in elevation are appealing to me. Thanks for the info on the courses in Baldwinsville, Foxfire and Radisson both look nice, I believe I'll be adding both of those to my itinerary. I've never played a links style course before so Erie Links looks like a good one too. Is it feasible to get a round in at Foxfire and Radisson on the same day? If so, I could get Rogues Roost in too.

Yeah, I looked at the website and saw some of the Greens Fees, they're just a little bit out of my range that I'm looking to spend, they do sound nice though.

If you drive an hour south to Binghamton you can play Conklin Players Club, best value for your buck anywhere! Its a great course!!

Is it feasible to get a round in at Foxfire and Radisson on the same day? If so, I could get Rogues Roost in too.

You should be able to with Foxfire and Radisson as they are right down the road from each other. You should check Foxfire to see if they have the deal where golf, cart and lunch are included for $25-$30. If so, you can play that in the AM and then go down the road and play Radisson. I've always liked Foxfire's layout (although it's a little short by today's standards), but the last few times I played there the conditions are so-so. Radisson is almost always in good shape. Rogues is only about 30 minutes away from these courses. Rogues doesn't look like much from the outside. It has 36 holes. One of the 18's has a few holes where big electric wires overhang, but other than that it's solid and usually in fantastic shape. Also, I've found the membership there to be extremely friendly which is kind of rare.

I live in Atlanta now and I'm guessing like Tennessee, the courses are pretty hilly. In Syracuse, the north side of the city is pretty flat and the south side can be extremely hilly. So Radisson, Foxfire, Erie Village and Rogues are all pretty flat, which is more than fine with me. I wouldn't bother with Binghamton. Not only is the drive hellacious but I swear in the 20+ years I've lived in NY I've gone to Binghamton once a year and every single time I've gone, it's rained. YAKUZA

Raddison and Foxfire are both good and as Richie3Jack said, just up the road from each other. Radisson is $48 with a cart, and Foxfire, well, you can get a deal on Weekends after 2pm, 18 w/cart for $25, during the week the are swamped with leagues, so go early. When you call Foxfire ask for Joel, the asst. Pro there (tell him Big Art recommeded it) he will hook you up, a buddy of mine.

Personal favorite is Radisson. From the tips, over 7000 yds, with tree and bunker lined fairways, not too hilly, with pretty good greens. It used to be owned by the state and the conditions were pristene, but with private ownership, it isnt kept as well as it could be. Sad to see, really, but a great track, you will enjoy it.

Foxfire, is a bit shorter, with slightly faster greens that break more than they look (trust me). Again tree lined, not as many bunkers and the back 9 is quite hilly.

Rogues Roost East and Links at Erie Village are similar, both very short, but you need to be accurate. You'll only need driver maybe 3x a round. Of the two, Links is a better layout, great greens (they play a Duramed tour stop there next week in fact) but more expensive.

Good courses in Binghamton, Enjoie (where the seniors played last week), Conklin, and Hiawatha Landing....but, must be something about the area, it rains every time I go there too HAHA.

Thanks magnus.on thursday I'm going to Green Lakes. I'm playing foxfire at 7am and then Radisson at 2pm on Friday. Gonna do rogues on saturday and erie on sunday before I start trekking back to tennessee.

One more week of work and then its vacation time. I'm so jacked up to go right now.

Played Radisson for the first time today...the course is in great shape. The tree lined fairways make your worried off the tee, but there is more room than you think.

Haven't played there this year, but I did last. Actually, amazing conditions, rough was actually ridiculous - 4 inches and lush, while the fairways were fast and clean. Greens were very good. They actually ran a membership special in the local paper recently, and this is from their site:
