i thought i had a 135 mph swing speed on the launch monitor
until i looked below the recording and saw that the 135 was my BALL speed
maybe its a simple mistake?

Titleist DCI 990 2-PW (Dynamic Gold S300)Nike Forged Unchromed 53*Nike Forged Chrome 60*Ping G2i Craz-e

The easier change would be to adjust your game vice the ball...meaning play one club more to carry the hole. If you have the ability to check the ball consistantly the green is much more reliable than trying to land prior to the green, or just on the green, and roll up.

Some other thoughts... dropped the Volkey milled and get a club that has less spin.

I am lost on your 115mph to 245 yd drive. I use a Nike Ball (soft) swing consistently about 93-95 and put the ball out about 240-260. You sound like you know way too much however to not be able to find the right ball. You know much more than us about your game and should be able to find the answers with a few trial and error rounds.

Good Luck.

You sure your driver isn't broken (not joking)?

As far as the irons checking too much goes, is this happening at your home course or at every course you play? Is your iron trajectory one of those piercing flights that suddenly starts to climb and then lands softly? If your natural shot is a soft fade, but you can draw it sometimes, does your draw roll out significantly further than your fade? Are you just habitually underclubbing?

I like the post that says you should club up. Basically, club up and make a smooth, slightly less aggressive swing, and you'll get more rollout from the same distance.

A lower spin ball that's a premium would be the B330, the V1x, the Callaway Tour-i X, and the Srixon something or other (either the Z-URC or Z-URS; one is low spin, one high), and the Black. At 110 mph you can compress anything.

I think your best bet is going to be to go with a ball that is designed to spin less. I would think that the Titleist ProV1x and Nike One Black would work.
Im not sure that I agree with the golf pro who told you the Black is too hard.

So you want less spin with your wedges? It doesn't make much sense. Why complain about being able to stop your shots? Unless you driver is checking up in the fairway it shouldn't be a problem. If you approach shots are leaving you short take an extra club. It might be an ego hit for a little while but I lost 1 1/2 clubs with my MP-57s but I love the trajectory and feedback, so I'm learning to live with it. Now I hit an 8 from 155 instead of a 9. No big deal.

As far as ball selection goes, I got the free 6 pack of the Callaway Tour iX and have to say that it's amazing. Long off the tee (I swing 110 and drive 280-300) and spins like a mother off my wedges. I backed some up 10 feet last round with my sand wedge. I was even pulling 7 irons back a few feet.

I had an interesting experience this week with golf balls.

I'm in Orlando with my family and have been playing Grande Pines. The wife and boys 14 and 15 have been losing balls at a rate that is hard to believe. I will add that the slope is 140 and it's easy to lose them.

So they are pretty much out of balls and I'm not handing over the Platinums to be hit one time. We stop at a local syore and we pick up 36 Slazenger Black Ice balls for $25.

As you can imagine there was some scoffing, much as you are right now, so to show them it's not always the ball I played with them as well yesterday and shot the best round in a while. It was pretty wet and they stuck so I can't really attest to the spin but I was very happy with the ball.

Save some money and try some different balls my friends.

I agree. So much of this game is one's perceptions rather than actualities. At the courses I play I usually end up finding more balls than I lose, so I haven't bought any new balls in a while. And I've yet to see any huge difference no matter what balls I play. Now I'm not the type who tries to put a lot of spin on the ball, so no doubt some subtleties are lost on me, but for the money I shop the bargains.

Okay to clear up any confusion, the situation is this. I play the Nike One Platinums and i spin the ball with the driver way too much. It checks up in the fairway. Then i get to my short drive and hit an iron to the green, it lands, and no matter what club it is, it doesn't make a ball mark and the ball looks like it wants to spin back but it just kind of checks up. I am happy with the play of the platinums around the green, but from 100 yards, not being able to spin it back is frustrating. And for the ball speed guy, that was a good idea, but my ball speed was like 165-175. And for the guy about the broken driver, it was a good guess, but the pro hit my driver today and hit it a mile, he plays the Bridgestone BB330-S. I am going to try the Pro V1xs, Callaway Tour IX, and the Nike One Black. Theres a ball fitting coming up on the 31st and thats when ill find out what ball im supposed to be playing, this quesiton was for my tournament im playing in on Friday. This thing happens at every course i go to, its not just my home course and its consistantly happening.

I'm not trying to be condescending but if you have a ball speed of 175 then you need to find a new driver because you should be hitting your drives a lot farther than that regardless of what ball your hitting.

It seems you have been somewhat inconsistant with exactly what your problem is. Initially you said the ball stops and doesnt release on your approach. Now you say it doesnt spin back... which one is it.

Better yet... why do you want it to spin back... it can get you in more trouble than benefit.

Finally, if you are looking for more distance just go with a Callaway Big Bertha... reduced spin and more distance... if that doesnt work... new driver.

They do consistently drive it 300 yards, and they are all younger and in alot better shape than pros, hence longer drives but worse short game.

Your dad is younger than Tiger Woods and in better shape? Huh?

110 MPH swing will never get you a 175 MPH ball speed. Well, I suppose it could if you were using illegal equipment (maybe a CoR of 0.9?).

Since you don't seem to have any real numbers (they're not agreeing with each other), I'd suggest you get some hard data if you want more help. A description of your trajectory would also help. Most people want to maximize carry these days, so I wouldn't be concerned about not getting a lot of roll. However, if your ball visibly rises (due to backspin, i.e. balloons a little) that is indicative of either: a) a ball that spins too much, or b) an angle of attack that's too downward. As for not spinning a ball backwards, there's really little point to that. It's a suitable shot a small percentage of the time, and not a shot I'd worry about hitting. If you ARE swinging 110 MPH, 245 is too short, and you should get a driver fitting and/or look at your swing mechanics.

I totally agree with iacas, your numbers have to be wrong somewhere. With your driver, is your ball flight really high and ballooning? If i were you I would test an x-stiff shaft or another stiff shaft (shafts have been known to be mislabelled and not tested to their actual stiffness) and another driver head. If this all fails, I have no idea.

I'm getting really confused at this point. Here are my thoughts:

No matter how spinny your ball is, it's not robbing you of 50+ yards. Maybe ten . . . maybe fifteen ? Something is messed up with your contact.

The no pitch mark, at all, is very bizarre. Your ball sounds like it spins back and climbs higher than you want in the air, which means it's falling a great distance, which means as a simple mater of physics it must be leaving a pitch mark on the green. I want to help out but I simply do not understand this. If you stood on the green and threw your ball at the green as hard as you could, you'd leave a mark. And that would be slower than a ball falling out of the sky.

If you can't pull the string and bring the ball back once it lands, part of that might be that you're not compressing it enough - except for the part where your trajectory is ballooning because of backspin - and part of that could well be that your course's greens just won't allow that sort of action.

But, mostly, I think your swing is a little wacky right now and your coach can help way more than us. After all, equipment can make positive differences, but it doesn't reshape your game.
