Does this sound right? Maintain the wrist angle (right wrist for righties) thorughout the downswing past impact. I guess this is basically keeping your hands in front of the ball too then in hindsight. Another tip I heard was to imagine that the grip of the club is going at the target on the downswing through impact zone.

yeah my coach had me do that...little shots and maintaining that angle through impact and stopping befor turning over my arms...it helps with impact..to "pinch" the ball..its good stuff...haha

Just one comment... it's good to "feel" that you're holding the angle, but in reality of course you don't. At the top of your backswing it's usually 90 degrees, and as you start down often that angle increases to well over 100 degrees. You clearly don't maintain that angle or you'd miss the ball entirely, but

feeling as though you maintain the angle (as long as possible) is a good thing, sure.

what really helps me as far as this topic is concerned...

before playing, when im on the range...ill do two practice swings, short and stopping right after impact trying to maintain that wrist angle. then i hit the ball normally. you'll find that where u are at at impact is a lot more pure than before. it basically trains ur hands and arms, where they should be when ur hitting the ball.

my coach wouldnt let me hit full shots for about 2 weeks at practice..all i could do was hit little shots like that on the range.

I know this is an old post but what exactly does this mean? Does it mean not turning your right wrist over at impact. Basically like hitting a "cut shot" I guess you could say.?

I know when I am releasing to early, I hit the ground before the ball and the ball has this little floater for like 140 yards or something, disgusting. The way I fixed it is by 1. trying to straighten up my left arm at the top of the swing and trying to keep it straight going down and 2. visualizing a full upperbody rotation with the lowerbody solid, these two work well with "me." Also I would like to say don't try to shorten your backswing and cocking more with your wrist, unless your tiger woods, you probably will start cocking your hands the wrong way or just screw up your swing, over top for example. Another tip is right before you start your swing, look at a spot 2 inches in front of your ball and try to hit it on the way down so your wrists are bowed through impact and you have a better chance of maintaining your wrist angle. The dangers are that you might reverse pivot instead of moving your weight right in the swing or on the down swing, make your lower body move dramatically in front of you creating a really ugly active lower body on the down swing. That's what I think is the right thing to do.

    • Day 335 - More putting work, with the focus on setup and hitting the sweet spot. 
    • Day 153: putted for a while using the 2 cups drill inside. Working on bead primarily. Contact was really good. 
    • Day 8: 12/17/2024 Okay I took my new PPJ swing thought to the range today. I wasn't sure I was quite ready to do so, but I'm glad I did.  When I got it right it was good... really good. When I got it wrong it was a major fail. I hit lots of really ugly ones. But I didn't let that deter me. I stayed committed and focused on the PPJ and I avoided any temptation to go back to what I was doing before just so that I could "look" better at the range. I'm pretty excited about what I saw when I got it right.  I hit the 6 iron mostly (nearly all block work today). I also hit about 6 balls each with the PW, 8I, 5W and Driver. Those had varying degrees of success. I did crack one drive that let me feel and see what the changes will look like once I get fully trained.  Anyway, I'm going to go back to the mirror work for a couple of more days before bringing it back to the range. I do feel like if I can get this right my swing will improve a lot. So I think its worth the effort. I liked the way it looked on GEARs when I get it right, and I like the results I got at the range when I got it right. Now the goal is to work towards getting it right more often. 
    • So I think it's that they can't just bend the shaft or hosel to get it to a new lie angle. They adjust that and it changes the weighting, so they have to then adjust all the weights to get it balanced again. I get the impression that it's a bit of an iterative process and they do it all in the US, so they're paying US labor costs to build it and make it work how it's supposed to. Whether you believe in the tech or not, I think that's a true statement.
