If a Cameron helps you sink more putts, then its worth the money. IMO, you could do just as well with a Ping Anser and spend less money.
To each their own though. You should try out a few Camerons and decide for yourself whether or not they are worth the money.

I tried out some Scotty putters and didn't really like any of them that much; certainly not enough to justify a $300 price tag. However, I did end up getting a Bettinardi off of ebay, brand new, for $120. I have to say that the putts feel better and smoother with the Betti, but I have noticed no difference in the number of putts I make versus my 20-year-old Ping Anser. The Ping Anser is of course the most copied putter in the history of golf, and, without it, Bettinardi and Scotty would be nothing. Putt with what you like.

I tried them all the Scotty's, and I couldn't justify the purchase.
My good friend swears by it and has the low handicap to back it up.
I, however, went with the Ping i Anser. Very sweet buttery feel.

I putted with my Scotty Cameron Kombi for about 45 minutes before I decided to spend that much money for a putter. My buddies had some cute remarks about the price when they saw it for the first time but they all agree now that it's helped my scores. If it ever gets stolen I will go buy another one the next day.

I play one of the original Scottys. I love it and I am very confident with it. I've had it for almost 10 years I think and I don't plan on giving it up. I am going to send it back to Cameron and have it refinished instead of buying a new one.

I think the majority of the answers here are either a "yes they're so worth it" or "only if it legitimately helps your game." I personally like the second answer.

i think the major advantage of a scotty is that they last forever, i had an odyssey white hot before my scotty which i absolutely loved but the faced died fairly quickly on it. in fact, it was so dead that when i switched to my scotty, i was blasting every putt by 5 feet for the first hour.

final answer, i recommend Scotty's. without mine i would have got laughed off of Bethpage Black this summer

There are only 2 kinds of people in this world.
Those that have a Scotty Cameron putter, or those that want one.

All kidding aside, I love my Newport 2 Midslant. It feels like it was custom made just for me.

There are plenty of people who don't have a Scotty and have zero desire to ever own one. And with regards to the "last forever comment," I still have my Ping Anser from early 1980s and my father has a few Pings from the 70s - all of those putters are in mint to near mint condition. I challenge someone to produce a scotty that has lasted that long. Impossible since he hasn't been making putters that long (1980s Ray Cook models aside). And again, most of the Newports etc., are all copies of Ping.

My dad also has an Anser from the 70s or early 80s and his is in excellent shape.

I play with a Scotty and like it a lot, but have dabbled with other putters over the years. I chose the Scotty with eyes closed to price and instead focused on results and feel, and tried a lot of different putters of all price ranges.

But one thing that I constantly don't understand regarding any discussions about Scotty putters is the almost gleeful way that many people denigrate them as rip-offs of Ping. Yes, the Newports are very close to the Ping Anser design. But if one looks at almost every manufacturer, you'll find multiple models in their lineup that are similar in shape and feel - Odyssey, Bettinardi, Yes, Rife, etc. all have Anser copies as well. But I never see someone putting down any of those models because they look similar to an Anser. And why don't people shout down every metal wood manufacturer as a "rip off" of Gary Adam's original design at Taylor Made? Afterall, they all just copied his design, so where is the indignation? Why is it that only Scotty putters seem to warrant this wrath?

I think Titleist drivers look suspiciously like a lot of other drivers out there, come to think of it, so do some of their irons, and those Vokey wedges look a lot like, well, a lot like wedges.

Great point. There's not that much difference in the way most golf clubs look in general.

I now have a Cameron. I liked the look, I like the feel, tested it against the comparable Ping and Odyssey models and like it better. It's worth it to me. I don't feel like I joined some exclusive club, just found a putter with which I am making more putts.

Perhaps because Scottys are terribly overpriced unlike any other Anser rip off. Despite owning a Bettinardi, I would agree that they are a rip off too. I bought mine at a deep discount and if it weren't for getting it at nearly $100, I'd still be using my 20+ year old Anser. I still see really no improvement or benefit with the new putter; it just mixes things up a bit for me and feels a little different.

And save for the blades that Titleist used to make, especially the ones forged by Hoffman, I think their irons are absolutely hideous. In fact, the only decent looking and feeling irons I have tried lately are the Mizuno MP-57s and MP-68s.

Perhaps because Scottys are

Again I have to disagree that only the Scotty's are priced high. A quick check of pricing at various golf retailers shows that all the premium milled putters like Odyssey Black Series, Ping Redwood, Taylor Made Kia Ma, SeeMore M1, Yes, etc. are all comparably priced. If one wants to argue that all of these are overpriced that is a different matter, and perhaps they are (although I wouldn't want to try and make a living milling and distributing putters). But it is incorrect to single out Scotty's here.

I stand corrected. I had no idea Taylor Made made a $300 putter. What a waste! And, of course, you cannot include the Ping Anser Redwood in the category of overpriced Anser rip offs because, well, it's a Ping Anser. Play with what you like. Obviously, this thread was meant to incite argument.

    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
