Hi all,

Just started getting a bit of income (working in a golf shop) and thought I might as well plough some of it back into golf.

I would like to buy a hybrid to go inbetween my 3w and 3i so somewhere between 19-21 degrees would be about right. I tried out the Titleist 585h and really liked it, but have read reviews warning higher handicappers to stay away. Is this justified or would I be able to hit it? I really want a club that will last in my set. Are there any other hybrids you would recommend I try?

In terms of wedges, I was thinking of getting a 52 and 58, as my PW is 47. In terms of bounce, the 52 would probably by about 8 and the 58 about 12, as I was thinking of using it as my sand wedge. Does this sound right?

I was looking at the Vokeys, but had been hearing good things about the Mizuno wedges. Does anyone have any recommendations here as well?

Thanks,
James

I love VOkey Wedges, but with a 28 handicap, I am not sure you will be able to really feel the difference. You might want to check out some of the Cleveland CG10 or CG11 that can be had for $50 a piece at Dicks Sporting Goods. Still a great wedge, and very cost effective. As for the Hybrids, I say go for it. At a handicap of 28, once again, I would tell you IMHO to look at something with maximum forgiveness. Either Adams or Cobra Baffler should very well fit into that category. As will some of the Nike Hybrids.

I have a cleveland hibore 2 hybrid with 19* loft (quite lofty for a 2h). It is very easy to hit and get up in the air, good solid feel too. Direct-golf have them for £59. This months issue of todays golfer has a feature testing 38 of the current hybrids, well worth a read. Wedge wise, the vokeys are very nice but have quite a small face, I use the nike sv tour, they have a slightly larger face while still retaining the classic teardrop style. They can be had for £55. PM me if you want any more info.
By the way a 52 and 58 is a good choice for the wedges. You may benefit from a little less bounce on the 58 so you can really open the face up when required (just a thought).

    • Courses naming holes like Augusta and Shinnecock do is pretentious wanker bullshit
    • :sigh: LMGTFY: The normal range of motion for knee flexion is approximately 135 to 155 degrees, allowing for essential activities like walking and sitting. For knee extension, it typically ranges from 0 degrees to about 15 degrees of hyperextension in some individuals.
    • The course is playing tough. We’re only about 50 miles away. It very windy here and going to get worse. They’re all dressed like it’s the British Open!
    • Have posted in a while or practiced for that matter. Dealing with a few medical issues. But I was able to practice and film today. I’ve played 5 times this year. Misses have been pulls or heavy shots. I feel this has a lot to do with my lower back issues. When I feel good, I get good rotation and I hit the ball well. Today I felt good. Hips and lower back felt nice and flexible. I worked mainly on the hands feeling from the top. The club head should feel like it’s going down and away from the ball and target at the start of the downswing. The right knee should stay a little flexed at the top. These are the only swing thoughts other than high hands (arms going up) I’ve been focused on. I did PW, 6 iron and Driver today. Here is PW. The hands look better as does the knee in the rehearsal. The knee gets more straight in the actual swing.   My left arm is not straight at impact, which it has never really been. But that’s not the focus of this practice.   6 iron looks better than last time. Driver also looks better than last time. Playing tomorrow. Hopefully my body will cooperate.
