I broke the shaft on my pitching wedge last spring and wanted to replace the shaft myself. There are probably some good books and/or tapes that would help me, however, I wanted see if there was anything on the Internet that might give me an idea on whether or not this is something I want to get into.
Any good sites you guys/girls might want to share.

Thanks,

Gary

If you are any kind of a tinkerer I think it could be a fun and inexpensive hobby. I found these instructions at Golf Works

It doesn't seem to tough but I've never done it myself.

Thanks Jeff... I shoot traditioaal archery (longbows and recurves) and make my own stuff. I thought I would give this a shot.

I you're into long bows you might have heard of Jerry Welsh maker of English longbows. He builds them out of yew wood he finds in Oregon. Pardon the name dropping but he's a friend of mine. I could listen for hours to his stories. He lives in a very small community in Alaska called Whale Pass... probably 35 people tops right now.

When I was 14 years old I went out there to fish one summer and hang out with a friend. I actually bagged a bear that summer... just the two of us and a couple of rifles. I think that was pretty crazy, but I didn't know it at the time. Jerry wasn't there that summer, but I met him after I graduated college.

So there you have my connection to longbows. FWIW, I shot one of his bows and it was total work.

Jeff, It sounds like Jerry Welsh wouldn't have trouble putting a shaft on a golf club. The sport of bowhunting with traditional equipment is fascinating. It is just a bow, string, arrow, and yourself. That is how I practice and when it's crunch time the shot is usually automatic. You should try it when the links are less than desirable. Gary

    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
