I shoot a 3 and a 4 Sumo2 hybrid, and they are a nice club. My home course that I play 80% of the time doesn't have a "true" rough, so as to say the grass isn't that much longer than the fairway grass, part reason being the "rough" area is littered w/ trees..... that being said, when hitting these clubs from the "rough" or on the fairway, they are a sweet swinging and nice hitting club.

On the few occassions that I have hit from somewhat lengthy grass (on a different course) they didn't seem to lose any pop or much distance what so ever........

They're more then fine. The course that I play a lot is really small maintenance staff wise and its really cheap to play, so a lot of the time the fairway is like the rough of a better maintained course. From my experience, the SUMO2 is fine out of the short-medium rough, but once you get into the real deep stuff, I'd stick to a five iron (or whatever club you use for that matter) to punch it out.

Performance wise the club is perfect. I love it off the tee. I'm hitting it 230+ consistently and straight so there's a much bigger reward (being in the fairway) with a lot less of the risk associated with the driver. From the fairway its great, it makes par 5's at around 480-500 yards reachable in maybe two and if not I'm left with a real short pitch to the green.

I have a sumo 1 and sumo2 2+3 - the 2+3 are solid wherever I hit them - I do occasionally pop a couple up out of the rough but I think thats my issue.

The 1 hybrid I struggle with a bit - get some great tee shots but have problems with it on the fairway and in the rough.

agreed....... I hit them the same way, and probably play on a course similar to yours in that the "rough" is more of a short-medium rough........... but yes, on a par 5 or long par 4 and w/ that second shot so crucial its nice to have these guys in your bag.............

    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
    • Day 31 (2 Jan 26) - Usual Friday men’s group shootout - good day of shot making  as most shots were right on line to the target point.  Putter and green reads were solid with some great par saves and a really tricky birdie.
    • Day 13 - 2026-01-02 One hour short game work. Chipping balls to different targets, compass putting drill with 2-3% slope.
