Howdy, neighbor! I'm down in Prattville. I've lived in Scottsboro and Russellville before, though. Russellville is where my wife is from.

I was born and raised about an hour and a half from Orange Beach. That's beautiful country down there by the coast. I understand Kiva Dunes is a great course to play but I've never been lucky enough to get out there for a round.

Roll Tide here -- we have the lead in the thread now, 2-1 with Tennessee also in the mix. (g)

Have you played the RTJ course at The Shoals yet?

Never been to Bama and I want to make it there soon. First stop will have to be the University of Alabama to marvel at what is now the permanent home site of the greatest football ever played. Next, I'd like to make it to the coast to see me some crimson tides. Any recommendations on best coast destinations?

P.S. You wouldn't believe how many times OSU fans ask, "Why don't you like Ohio State and WHY do you like Alabama?"

My Answer: I admire tradition, excellence, and the best football program in the history of college football.

yes i have, The Fighting Joe is really long (from the back its extremely long) if you're accurate and have decent distance you can score no problem though, once you get past the first cut of rough it is high grass to your knees/waist like in the british open .... The Schoolmaster i've only played once ... dont remember a whole lot about it, its got more trees and the rough isnt as high (from what i remember) seems to be more elevation changes, elevated greens and tees etc. again accuracy is key there too

If you ever come down, PM me. I cover college football as part of my job and I do all the home games for UA.

You won't see any "crimson tides" on the coast unless we're having an algae bloom. (g) And then you won't want to get anywhere near the coast. The nickname spawned from the fact that, before there were numbers on football jerseys, Alabama dressed in red shirts (probably because the state flag is a red St. Andrew's cross on a white background) and a sportswriter said it looked like "a crimson tide of humanity" or something of the sort. Coastal destinations for a vacation? Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. You'll see sand unlike any other beach I've ever been to. It is white, and I mean WHITE. They call it "sugar sand" because it looks like sugar. Very soft and clean. Both towns are more family-oriented than some Gulf Coast beach locations. For golf, Kiva Dunes, definitely. That's in the Gulf Shores area. Across Mobile Bay in Mobile, you have the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Magnolia Grove complex, with the Falls course and the Crossings course. (see http://www.rtjgolf.com/courses/ for a complete list of these courses across the state -- they're all superlative). Cotton Creek/Craft Farms is a bit inland up near Foley, and I've heard it's good. Glenlakes is a decent links layout. It's in Foley, too. Jess

Thanks! I haven't been able to play that one yet. I've heard it's pretty tough and I was wondering how well it fit in with the rest of the Trail given that it was built after Jones' death.

Thanks, I might do that! I'll try not to slow you down much (just noticed your handicap -- lol).

Same offer stands if you come down here and want to play Capitol Hill or Cambrian Ridge. We have a couple of other good courses in the area, too (Emerald Mountain - Wetumpka, Lagoon Park - Montgomery). Jess

    • Day 9, May 13.  After work, I went to my practice room for a dozen balls (two sessions of a half dozen each).  I may do more later, but I wanted to make sure I posted here too.  Same priority as yesterday, with the arms lifting.
    • Day 263 6-13 Setup alignment stick station for hands off body drill. Worked on wrist arch as well. Working on not hitting the stick 😀
    • Day 64 (13 May 26) - last practice of golf team for the school golf team….got to hit a few balls while working with the kids.
    • Hi @RetiredOldMan!  I am glad to see you are still playing and having good scores.  I hope that when I am 79, I am not only able to play, but still able to produce as good scores as you have been doing.   I look forward to hearing more of your success and your opinion of the senior flex shafts.
    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)
