Which iron set would you chose?

-Taylor Made CGB MAX
-Taylor Made Burner XD
- Callaway FT i-brid
- Callaway FT
- Titleist AP2

I am currently using my father's iron set (Honma Graphite), but I am going to get my 1st iron set soon.

I am new, played golf for several years, #7 130-180 yards, ball usually goes out straight, middle-low accuracy. I want to improve my accuracy and distance . Still improving my swing speed (Currently, 70 miles for irons, 100 miles for Driver)

Some people say, don't buy maximum forgiveness iron set because it's too easy to hit , you won't improve too much. Is that the truth?
If you are in my shoe, which iron set would you chose? Or any other suggestion?

I am going to get my club fitting this weekend.

I’m appreciated you responses.

If im you ill go for the first 4 in your list. They are game improvement irons. Maybe after when you get better and shoot lower then get the Titleist AP2s.

Fairway: Titleist 906 F2, 13* and 18* loft, Fujikura 757 Tour Spec. XS, IOMIC Grip Black
Irons: Callaway Tour Authentic Prototype 3-9, Project X 6.5, IOMIC Grip Black
Wedges: Titleist Vokey 48*, Titleist Proto Vokey 52*, Titleist...

Definately not the AP2's, maybe the AP1's..but at your hdcp you probably can't hit the AP2's.

Ive been pretty happy with the CGBs so far. I used to stay away from the max forgiving clubs for the same reason, but found I wasnt getting any better with the clubs I had. So I have switched to a lot more forgiving clubs. I could see it being a problem if you want a club with workablity because these things go straight on most shots, even the bad ones. Im sure you would be happy with the Burner XD though too, as Ive never had some one give me a good difference between the CGB and the Burner XDs.

i would recommend something like the burner or the R7 irons. in my opinion i believe callaway is over-priced. but by no means still a good company. the callaway x-20 tour irons is a good choice too...

TM and Callaway are both overpriced. Hell, all golf clubs are overpriced!

R7 Superquad 10.5* REAX regular flex shaft
FT 5 wood
675XC forged irons 3-PW, True Temper DG SL stiff(S300) shafts
55* BeCu sandwedge
e6+ balls or ProV1
Cougar X-cat putter (odyssey 2-ball rip-off)

haha... yeah i think TM is reasonable.. with the R7 Draw and R7 irons at 399-499 but those callaway FTI-Brids for 1499 that is way overpriced... if i wanted a club like that i would go with either the hibore set or nike oss...

    • Congrats! Day 551, May 6, 2024 Played 18 holes with @DrizZzY hitting irons only and playing the white tees. No really "bad" shots, and a few really, really good ones. Finished on nine (they send us off 10 in May) with… a 197-yard 5I uphill and an 84-yard sand wedge to three feet.
    • Ahh the old classic "nobody agrees with me so I don't want to talk about it anymore"
    • @anaveragehacker, you’ve been ignorant this whole time and now you’re being disrespectful. Not a great combo. You asked what the rules were and we told you. You complained about them and we told you why they were the way they are. The “who is the committee?” Question has been answered a few times. Dave and I are Rules Officials and the other people replying know the rules far better than you, so the fact that we are all disagreeing with you should say something. this thread is going nowhere and your original question has been answered several times.
    • What is this committee I keep hearing about? We’re a small league playing at a county course. And these are temporary issues that may be gone in a day or two. In any case, I wish more people agreed with me. It seems that trying to convince golfers to modernize rules is like trying to change the Bible. You guys are so serious it kind of proves my point. Other sports make adjustments for  field conditions etc during lower level play. This isn’t life and death here, it’s sport. No need to keep arguing. I have my opinion and you have yours.
    • Yeah, I agree that some of the charts are hard to make sense of. That short game chart is showing how often a short game shot ends up within a certain distance. The orange bar is all shots, the green bar is for shots within 25 yards, and the blue bar is for shots between 25 and 50 yards. I just play around with all of it and will figure it out. I would suggest just diving in and see what jumps out and work on that.
