Sort of excited: did I score a major deal?

So I took my daughter to the range and putting green this am, and on the way back we stop at Play it Again Sports for my bi-monthly equipment browsing. I'm looking at putters, since lately I haven't been very happy with my Bobby Grace FLS. I've been thinking I might like a blade rather than a mallet - there's the usual bunch of junk; dunlops, black knights, zebra's etc... then I notice a ping grip on a putter with a cover on it, I pull the cover off and it's a nice blade. The price is $39.99 and I think "that's a little more than I want to spend, but this looks pretty nice." I take it up to the register and the woman behind the counter picks up the putter and starts to ring it up, and then starts frowning. I ask her why, and she says "Oh nothing, one of our newer hires screwed up on pricing this putter, but its going to work out very well for you.

How good a deal did I get???

I don't know... I guess I'll find out... I've been playing with it here in my living room and I seem to consistently hit it a little right of target.

I'm wondering if there is a way to paint some alignment aids on it that come off if needed and not affect the value? Also, is there any way to tell what year a particular scottsdale anser was made?

Nice to know that I could turn around and sell it on ebay for twice what I paid for it. I think I'll keep it though.

I thought those putters were rare, since ping makes their putters in phoenix now (rather than scottsdale where the company originated from.)

Either way its a great putter, I had almost the exact same experience when i found my gamer, and its stuck with me through everything

I would say you got a great deal!

Last year I bought a mid 1980's Taylormade TPA III putter on ebay that was brand new still in the original plastic. I payed the guy $100.00 for it but he doesn't know I would have went up to $150 considering the price of today's putters and this one was brand new and the one I wanted.


Maybe I'll start browsing my local "Play it again Sports",,,LOL!!!!

I've decided to use a sharpie to put some sightlines and an alignment dot on my anser. any tips or guides for determing the sweet spot with any sort of precision?

      My flop shots are 6-7° down (AoA). Does that answer it? 😄  The longer answer is… You have to be able to do both shots.

      I hope you don't mind me raising this one from the dead. I got shortgamechef's video access thing for a few months in 2024. I watched his yip fix videos (the general gist is similar to the first video above, but with a lot more detail) and it made a lot of sense. I was working on it in my backyard off a mat for a while and my yippy thing was mostly gone. Aside from anything else, the flop shot using that technique is so easy and controllable. But I got onto a golf course for the first time of the year and found myself by the green on a downslope with the ball sitting down a little in the rough and I was, not to put too fine a point on it, f***ed. Shallow is all well and good from a good flat lie and I understand it, but you can't make that your be all and end all. I still don't know if it's a good idea to use steep all the time or just when you need to. I have a hard enough time with one technique, let alone too.  Just got a pitching skillest lesson with Erik and unless I misunderstood things some, he wants me a bit steeper. @iacas - where do you fall on the steep vs shallow argument and how do you vary it according to need?
