which is better ping or titleist irons? Right now I am hitting ping but I dont think I am hitting them very well just wanted to see what everyone else thinks and what series of the irons

Titleist is alot bett than ping for better players irons. They have 3 choices in their current line for low handicap irons, The AP2's, ZB forged, and the ZM forged. Also their last last line had the 695's, which are great clubs. If you're a low handicapper you really can't go wrong with titllest.

I wouldnt go that far... the s59 irons and s58 are certainly a players iron...they dont offer a forged blade but that's ok

am I the only one who cant stand the ap2! what an ugly club to look down at

I'll agree that the ap2's are ugly but the pings are equally ugly imo. I've never liked the look of ping irons, I'd have to go with titleist.

Which Pings are you swinging now. I've got a set i3 blades that I like quite a bit. I'm slow to get new clubs though. I played an old set of i2's for years before I even considered new clubs but, with my game, I needed to reduce the offset that my i2's had. Chances are you'll like Titliest irons better if you're currently swinging one of the more consumer orientated sets from Ping and you're having problems with the offset and/or would like to work/spin the ball a little more.

That said, I'm very happy w/my i3 blades. Happy enough that I haven't even gawked at new irons. ;)

I used to love Titleist but after feeling different forgings from other companies Ive come to find the titleist forging process to produce a somewhat clicky feel

I'm a total feel player so this started to really bother me with the 735cm and the 695mbs I demoed 300000 times at my local track

It definitely depends on what you're looking for. Titleist offers forged options and more options for better players. That being said, in my limited experience, s58s are great irons - surprisingly forgiving and great feel for a cast iron. If I had the option of any titleist or ping irons I think it'd be a tossup between the s58s and ap2s.

Ap2's are nice clubs, but i agree, there not teh holy grail of clubs..

That being said, you can go,

Ping-
i5
i10
S58
S59.

Titleist-
735's
ZB/ZM
695 Series,
660's
Ap series.

Titleist has more options, but if you dont like hwo they look, pings are always there.

Pings always looked darker to me, whereas Titleists just dopnt look good to my eye. Thats why i went with R7TP's, They have little offset, but have a little beefier head.

Right now I am hitting the ping i10 and I never really looked at titleist clubs before when I was looking because I thought I couldnt really hit them but I work at a golf course and every now and again I will demo a titleist and I also seem to hit it really well. So I dont know what I am going to do.

I think that almost all Ping irons are ugly, so I would rather use a Titleist. However, I doubt that either one would replace my Mizuno's

The ones that YOU hit better or just like for whatever reason. You don't need the opinions of others on this topic. If one brand was better, everyone would use it. Anyone who claims that one is better than the other is a sucker for advertising. I have no issue whenn they say what THEY like, but that does not mean that one is better than the other. Many golfers are paid to play both brands and many more buy them themselves. It's your call.

PING was the first comapny on my radar to really tout the virtues of custom fitting. This concept really appealed to me, and the rest of the world, it seems. I feel like they changed the industry and really made it more customer based.

I played a set of I3 blades for a few years. I went to these clubs after owning a set of DCI irons. It was really a personal evolution for me as I was growing in my skill level and club needs. The DCI irons began wonderfully for me, however I grew to appreciate the cleaner set up of the non-offset I3 blade and the stiffer shaft I went with on the PING set.

My belief is that you can't go wrong with either company....it simply comes down to which iron best fits your needs.

I would also rank Callaway right in there, too.

Wow. I'm really surprised by the number of people who base their decisions on the appearance of a club rather than how they hit it.

And while I used to think PINGs were ugly, they got a LOT prettier after I hit them.

I've also hit the PING S58s side by side with the Titleist AP2s and I preferred the S58s. I'm sure I will get flamed by all the die-hard "forged is better" folks, but the S58s had a softer feel to me. I also got more distance and better trajectory out of the S58s. The AP2s were, however, superior to the AP1s.

I just think PING knows how to make a superior cast club that has a feel that is as good as, or better than, any forged club.

BUT , as Lefty said above, what it comes down to is what YOU like. No one else's opinion matters. Both PING and Titleist make excellent clubs - whichever you choose, if you choose based on performance in your hands, will serve you well.

For your handicap, Titleist has better irons.

Define 'better', I personally think that you should go and try out both companies sets of irons, who are we to say one brands product is 'better' than another when so much is based on personal preference?.

I think between this year and last year ive tried every type of club.

I started with some Cleveland TA3's, went to taylormade r7s, went to titleist 775s, then to snake eyes 600b's, Mizuno MP57's, Mizuno MX25s.

Then i got some Ping i10's last week and theyre freaking awesome... I dont think ill ever look back...

I think if i was good enough to play blades efficiently i would get titleist just because i love the look of blades. But if it was between the ap2 and i10 i would go with the pings everytime.

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
