Right Eye or Left Eye

Im not sure how many people know this but typically each person is one eye dominant. There are a few tests to find out which eye it is and, that is the best way to determine how to line up a ball in your stance and find center.

I found this out because I have hard a hard time finding the center of my stance and it has been hurting my putting and iron play because of a lack of consistancy.

Well as it turns out... I have 20/10 vision and instead of a dominant eye taking over both eyes focus on the ball thus preventing me from finding center, lining up shots, putting, etc.

If this game wasnt hard enough as it was now I find out I am a freak and have to play with one eye.

Anyone have an eye patch they can send me?

If the object you are focussing on is to the side of your field of vision, your dominant eye can change (Try it, but focus on something in your periphery with the standard dominant eye test). I've never heard of it changing for something centered though. Is your head way behind/in front of the ball at address? Or is your head swiveled like Nicklaus? Or does your head move a lot when you swing?

I sometimes wonder how your dominant eye affects your golf swing. I am left eye dominant-right hand swinger and I have a head twist like Ochoa on my downswing that I think stems from me wanting to keep the ball in my left eye.

What I have found out during my tests is that if we mark center, place the ball, and then address it... Then I look at the target... my eyes refocus and a different eye half the time becomes dominant. When I look back down at the ball I start feeling that I am misaligned so I check and if the dominant eye switched... I see a misaligned shot... so I adjust and screw up my aim.

After closing my right eye (Im right handed and should be right eye dominant but am closer to left eye dominant like you) and lining up and looking at the target and back down to the ball and everything looks good, I can proceed with two eyes open as long as I am ready to swing.

My understanding that, especially in putting, having for dominant eye closer to the hole is better. Thought being that if you are right eye dominant you have to look across your whole body/face to see the hole with your dominant eye.

If you are right handed, swing the club as a right hander and right eye dominant go grab a left handed putter and try putting some putts basically lefthand cross handed (it would be like putting the ball with your back swing). The face will probably look open at address but you will be very surprised at how good you are and how much better you can see the line.
