I know this isn't the "proper" way to get fitted but I am thinking of upgrading to a aftermarket shaft. My average swingspeed, according to Roger Dunn Golf, is 93 mph.

I would like to get highspin, high launch. I think the stock STIFF on the TM R5 (the one I got from Erik) is a tad strong.

Any suggestions/recommendations..I like the Fujikura Vista Pro 60. http://www.fujikuragolf.com/pages/vpro.html

I'd say my swing tempo is slow to medium.

My driver swing speed is about the same as yours, and I believe 93 mph is a tad slow for any stiff shaft.

I am assuming you are looking at a regular flex in the Fujikura, and that model should be a definite contender for you. You might also consider the Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue in a regular flex. Same low kick point for higher launch angle, but torsionally stiffer than the Fuji.

I don't play it, but I have swung it a few times. Not bad.

I installed the Fuji VP 60 in my R7 and I've been very happy with that combination plus it's also the same shaft in my R7 3 wood and I like having the two match. I'll most likely install it in my V-Steel 5 wood too, again to have everything feel the same. But not that you have to do this, I'm just anal ;)

If you go with Grafalloy then the Prolaunch might be your best choice there. Finally if you consider UST you have 3 good offerings there Either the (Harmon) HTD CB-65, HTD Counter Balance Pro or IROD Driver

Good luck and happy hunting.

Yes..I'm looking at their (R) flex. I already have the GPL Blue (R) in my current Cally GBB 415..and it's great..but just wanted to get something different.

What flex with your VP60?

What flex with your VP60?

Stiff because my swing speed averages 108

I would recommend either a Aldila NVS, Fujikura Vista pro or the Pro launch. Too many choices and not enough time or money

I just got off the phone with a fitter (Joe Kwok) and after evaluating my swing type and as much data as I could give without him personally seeing my swing he suggested:

Graffaloy Comp NT65
Aldilla PINK 65
Fuji. Tour Platform

What is the difference if you have low spin, high launch compared to medium spin, high launch? (I forgot to ask him)

Hey Mav

If Joe recommended those then I would go that route. He is one of the best in the business. The Tour Platform would be a great choice, forgot about that shaft.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
