I warm up a little without clubs.

1) I hit about 10-15 balls with my wedge.
2) I move through all my Irons hitting 5 balls with each iron
3) I hit 10 balls with my 3 wood
4) I go back to my 5-6-7 Iron
5) I hit 10 balls with my driver
6) I work on draws and fades with my long Irons

I like to mix up the irons and the woods. I don't like hitting 30 straight with my driver. I never hit more than 10 shots at a time with my driver. I might hit 30 shots with it each practice session but never more than 10 at a time.

This routine takes about an hour and probably 150-200 balls.

No practice routine really yet. Plan on working alot on short game chipping cause I tend to fly the green or get absolutely no loft when close. Give up alot of strokes that way. Gonna use the "pick a target" method for wedges on the range, as well as get ranges for each club. Alot of work, but worth every minute.

My bag:

When I first started, my practice routine at a range was very different.

This routine was for muscle memory:

1 - slight stretching and a short iron (PW) for a few warm up swings.

Usually 5-10 balls hit in batches of 3-5 balls in fairly rapid succession. No reason to stand over a practice warm up shot over thinking. Hit.. re-address, hit... re-address... no thinking just do then think about the goods and bads of those 5 swings after to make adjustments before the next cycle.

I then would hit low iron 2-3 batches and work up to the driver in 2 club increments.

The only club I allowed myself to tee up is the driver, everything else MUST be hit off the deck. Grass (no mats) as well.

Focused game improvement method:

My new routine has a more focused approach for areas of my swing that need work. Could be more driver, hybrid or long iron focused. All full swings focused on understanding how to work the ball and the impact of modifications to swing speed, plane, weight shift...

If I want to work 8 iron through pitching wedge and short game / puttting, I head out to the par 3 for a few hours. Best money I spend all year for real game improvement.

I still use the batch quick re-address method to avoid over thinking shots. This is the single GREATEST practice tip for me personally.

I do switch between club lengths much more often like I am playing a round so 2-3 drivers, then 2-3 wedges / short iron into the green is common.

It depends on the SOTS (State of the swing). If in repair mode, I tinker with a mid-iron till I find the fault.

Usually, I am trying to ingrain a feeling, stronger move from the bottom. Turn over the face faster.

I don't stick with one particular iron for a long time and switch around alot. Short irons to mid to long to driver to short to fairway wood.

I sometimes use impact spray. Use an alignment aid most of the time.

Sometimes I try crazy stuff. Swing only with the left arm. Swing from the knees. Hit crazy hooks and slices.

Pretty simple routine at the range really.

I generally hit about 80% of the balls with nothing more than my 56 degree SW and I hit them to the 70 yard marker. From there I'll hit some PW's to the 120 and then move my way up through the bag with the balls I have left until I hit three or four with my driver.

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
