I've got an opportunity to do some subbing in a golf league and would like to read up on do's and don'ts. It seems like every time I play I learn some new informal rule or tradition from more experienced players, and figured I could come up the curve quicker with some homework.

Another hint, play golf with some older gentlemen who have been around the game for a while. You'll learn rather quickly what to do and what not to do. I was fortunate enough to learn the game from a couple of seniors and am very thankful for all that they've taught me.

Thanks. I appreciate the suggestion on golfing with seniors too...the retired golfers I know are pretty serious about their game, and I'm reluctant to to play with them at my current skill level.

I agee that it's not simple to play with retired golfers. They bored with us soon. My suggestions are going to club to meet and practice with others at your skill level and reading guide books and videos of pros. Moreover, you can refer some useful tips below:

  1. Don't waste your money on expensive clubs until you have reached a basic level of competency.
  2. Don't go near a golf course until you have reached a basic level.
  3. Get lessons from a qualified professional.
  4. Learn the three fundamentals
  5. Watch the pro's.
  6. Practice.
  7. Learn the rules of golf and basic golf etiquette.

I hope that these tips help you avoid costly mistakes many people made, including myself.

Play with other golfers. I played with my dad years ago, who isn't much of a golfer, but he HAS been around it in the business world and knows how to and how not to act. So my best advice is just go golf with a golfer (as silly as it sounds).

I coulda sworn I left the cart right here......

Since number 7 was the only one relevant to his query, even though it added no information, I'm guessing you've responded to the wrong thread.

Most will get a bit short with you if you are slow, not if your bad. Keep up with them, even it mean picking up your ball and walking with it for a 150 yards.

Never use a paragraph when a sentence will do.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
