Good morning gals and guys,

All of us obviously wants to play with premium balls such as Pro V1, V1x, Nike Platinum and so on. However give the option, would you rather play with brand new $20-$30 balls such as NXT, Nike Juice, E5, E6, etc or used Premium balls $40-up such as Pro V1, Nike Platinum?

Thanks
Steve

Good morning gals and guys,

I would do research as to what ball fits my game the best, and by the best value. There are some awesome golf balls out there that don't come to the highest price point. Ie: NXT Tour ($28), Callaway Hot Bite ($28), Bridgestone e5+ ($22), Top Flite Gamer ($20) etc...

I think the best way to go is to find which one of these balls (or similar) fits you best, and then buy them by 4 dozen or 6 dozen at a time, on a place like Ebay. You'd be surprised at the deals you can get. I got 3 dozen Hot Bites for $58. That probably isn't even the best you can do. To answer your question more specifically, I trust new balls far more than old ones. Those used ones have been through god knows what, and that can effect the consistency of your game. Good luck man. Fairways and greens! (Try that Bridgestone e5+, you'll like it!)

My dad is a steward at a golf course so I have a near constant supply of free barely used lost ProV1s/ProV1xs. So I vote for free used premium balls! But since I'm a high HCer, when I do have to buy balls I buy new mid-priced balls - usually NXTs. I can't tell a huge difference between ProV1s and NXTs, so the only way I would buy used premium balls is if they were in very good condition and cost the same as or less than new mid-priced balls.

This question (or similar comes up so often I need to have my answer ready to cut and paste.

I've been playing the Nike Power Distance Soft for the past two years. I picked them up because they came in 2nd in more than one review a few years ago. I try something new at least once a month. Latest was the freak, Wilson 50 and NXT Extreme. I continue to go back to the PD Soft balls. For *me* NOTHING has been better.

They run $16 a dozen. I would play them if ProVs were $10 a dozen.

Good luck!

What ball I play depends on how/when I am playing. If I am not hitting the ball well,or if I am playing early in the morning with dew still on the greens and everywhere, I don't always play a new top grade ball. However league play or at a nice place I break out the nicer balls usually.

I agree with that post a couple above mine. The Nike Distance Soft is a grea ball for $15. I was turned onto that buy my teaching pro. He said alot of good golfers prefer that over alot of other balls.

Birdieman I think I read your review about golfballselector.com and while I thought it was a good review. Wasen't it mostly just common sense choice's of all the top selling balls available? Didn't it cost a small fortune trying them all?

I think I've tried every darn ball out this past summer. I found, even if I hit some others longer, etc, the Nike One Platinum is my ball. Nothing else quite feels right. Now I lose balls and am a high hcdp, but I found a great ebay source for them that comes out to around $55 for 36. They are nearly new and play the same.

    • Imma throw a dart in the dark as no one can tell what is happening once every fourth iron shot per your OP. This might sound counterintuitive but if ball position is too far back in the stance folks are known to throw down clubhead steeply. Could be happening. And yes, @billchaois not wrong; clubhead tends to bottom out wherever your pressure is. So slide forward (not sway), then hit.
    • Day 300 (!): did a stack session.
    • Day 24: Missed my weekly round due to a last minute little league makeup game this morning. Managed to get in some backswing rehearsals while grilling sausages for dinner, and then putted around the office/laundry room after dinner.
    • but I don't understand how that's possible you still want your head to stay back you don't want the upper body coming forward and plus I've tried feeling that and it made my fat shots worse and I then tend to pull and sky all my shots especially with driver because I get in front of it dont need force plates to see i finish on my left side
