It was the most charmed hole of my short playing career.

I was at my local course Plumbrook Golf Club on the short par four that is 320 yds, and is very easy to score par if not birdie. I hit a decent drive for me on the right side of the fairway and just outside of the 75yd marker. I grabbed my 56* wedge, and took aim to head especially left of the pin because I have a tendency to pull my iron shots to the right. The ball went skyward and was as clean a stroke as I've ever made. At first it looked long, then it hit the green and rolled back toward the pin and dropped.

I looked at my playing partner and exclaimed, "Thats that Pro-V1 technology". After looking at the ball mark, the ball hit six feet past the pin and backed up to drop in. Great shot, lots of luck, and my first eagle. Gotta love it!!!

That is fantastic Uthinkso! I'd love to real one back like you did.

So, is an "eagle" equal to a hole in one, as far as having to buy a round at the 19th hole?

Congrats on the Eagle. Now maybe others on this board (i.e., Me!) can start getting them too! Sweet shot!

I've pulled 'em back up to 15 feet.....too bad they are always already on the wrong side of the pin (short) for that!

Congratulations on your first eagle ! It's a great feeling. I've had quite a few eagles through the years, but my first one definitely stands out. I was playing with my father and my best friend. I was 16 and had hit a par 5 in two, with about a 4 foot putt for the eagle. All the way up to the green, my best friend was saying " Don't blow it", "Don't blow it". I was a little nervous over the putt, but somehow got it to drop.

I deffinitely dated the ball and saved it. Small deal to most on here I'm sure, but its a big deal to me.

As for the 19th hole, my pocket felt slightly lighter after I left.

Your handicap got down to 17 before you ever made a birdie? That's interesting. You must make a lot more pars than me if your handicap is so much better than mine without ever making a birdie, and if you make a lot more pars that means it's even stranger that you'd never made a birdie.

Either way, congrats on your birdie. I'm sure there are many more to come. -Andrew

Congrats on that man, I can't wait until my first eagle. I hit my first birdie a couple of weeks ago, it was on a short par 3, landed my tee shot within a yard of the pin. It felt so sweet as it's on a hole near the clubhouse so there was a few people watching. I have only been playing seriously for a month so this was a big achievement for me. Even though it was a short putt, my heart was thumping outa my chest. lol

Congrats, my first came on the hardest hole on my home course. A long par 5 and I holed out from ~100 for eagle, what added to the experience is that I was playing that round with my coach. The ball is in my room with the date on it and everything.

Nice Bird!!

Exactly, I was sure that i'd miss it. My mind was racing and I couldn't concentrate on my setup. I had to give a big fist pump when it went in.

Still not managed to equal that achievement yet, so I think an eagle is a long way off yet!!

Yeah, I'm a bit surprised when I see some of these threads and people with decent handicaps are talking about their first birdies or even eagles. I guess it must come down to different styles of play. For me, being a relatively long hitter...and a pretty good putter...I've had tons of birdies and several eagles. I don't even know when my first eagle was...it was cool but nothing that special that I saved the ball or remember the day. Yet due to inconsistencies, my handicap is nothing special. While I may have a lot more birdies then some people, I've probably also got a lot more bogey+s.

Now, when I finally get that hole-in-one, I'll definitely be keeping that ball! Anyway, congrats on the eagles and birdies...hopefully the flood gates are now open and you'll be draining them on a regular occasion

I'm the same way; I think being a long and inconsistent hitter has a lot to do with it. I've had rounds with 2 birdies but a score over 110. I guess the reason is overall I'm not a good or even decent golfer, but on shorter par 4's, I'll have a short wedge or even a putt for my second shot a decent percentage of the time. I've never made the eagle chip or putt in that situation, but I've hit those birdies a lot even though I'm just as likely to get a 7 or 8 if I go back to the tee and try it again.

    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

    • Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
