Stopped in my local golf shop today, just to "look around," and next thing I know I'm swinging a Tour Edge JMAX QL Driver into the driving net in the back of the store.

I've been wanting to stick my toe into the pool of the jumbo 400+cc drivers, but didn't want to drop the necessary duckets to do so.

Long story short, I traded in my old Taylor Made R360XD for the Tour Edge JMAX QL (455cc) driver for less than a hundred bucks. Simply couldn't pass up the deal.

Naturally, there's snow on the ground, so I can't range it yet. Will let ya'll know if I regret the purchase.

Any experience with Tour Edge products here? I hear they're quality stuff...

Congrats on your trade/purchase. Tour Edge stuff is good quality that gets overlooked because it's at a lower price point than the big boys. I have a Tour Edge Exotics driver that has one Florida round under its belt, and waiting for the snow to clear here so I can put some more miles on it.

Let us know how the JMAX works when you get a chance to give it a better workout. Nothing like a new driver to break up the winter blahs.

in the bag today:
Driver: TaylorMade R9 10.5° (Fujikura Motore 65 stiff)
3-wood: Tour Edge Exotics XCG (Aldila DVS Fairway 75 stiff)
hybrid: Sonartec Md 21° (UST Proforce V2 Hybrid 85 stiff)
4-PW: Titleist 755 (Titleist TriSpec Regular)Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design 252.08 bent to 50.5° (Oil...

I just recently purchased the Tour Edge JMax Bazooka QL Irons/Hybrids combo and I am very happy with the performance of the irons at the driving range(the hybrids were not for me, so I traded in the 3 & 4 to put towards a new Ping putter). Once I get my new Putter I will probably go out and play 9 or maybe just hit a par-3 course, then I will have a true answer.

I then decided to just finish the bag and ordered 3 of the Bazooka (non-hybrid) wedges which are very very nice. The brushed back / polished front is very nice to look at and I really liked the way the felt at the driving range today.

I have also hit someone's older Tour Edge 3 wood at the driving range and I really liked the feel and sound, although his $25 eBay club didn't perfom as well as my new TM V-Steel (at least not over a few hits. Who knows how it would have been if I had spent more time with it).

Yeah, a little post-purchase research has me thinking I made a good value buy. If anything, it's an introduction to the 400+ cc driver world that I've been avoiding for stubborn reasons. If I can get used to the huge head, then maybe I'll spring for something with a little more horsepower under the hood.

Of course, now I have to buy those newfangled long tees. Did ya'll get much snow in Richmond? The courses up in Fredericksburg are still under some snow, though today's weather helped melt most of it.

I would guess about 4 inches or so in the West End where I live. After today I imagine it is all gone.

Today was just so damn nice that I actually hated being at the range and wish I had gone out to play 9. I just don't have a putter yet (except one that I really hate). Tomorrow should be just as nice, or close to it, so everyone please pray for Second Swing to get my putter in!

I've had two Tour Edge drivers: a 320J (great loooongball driver but had to go to bigger head and more forgiveness) and a JMax CF (I use it during the winter because the shaft gets along better with my swing in the colder weather ... and my wife steals it during the summer). They make good stuff, even on the cheap (non-exotics) end.

That's a good deal and I bet you'll like the driver.

Realized I had this thread out here, so I thought I'd tidy it up neatly.

The Tour Edge JMAX QL Driver completely caved on me after two rounds and two (actually, one and a half) driving range sessions. I'm no big hitter (260-270 carry with a 106 mph clubhead speed), so there was absolutely no reason for this thing to collapse. Took it back to the shop I bought it from, and thanks to Tour Edge's lifetime warranty, they replaced it with a brand new one. I politely declined and asked for store credit. Will probably pick up some Pro V1's with it.

I'm hitting the Big Bertha 454 now, and am quite pleased. Pretty confident it won't cave in on me. I know Tour Edge is up and coming, but they've got some quality control issues to iron out, in my opinion.

    • I have played in Scotland and Ireland at some of the top 100 courses in the world including Royal County Down rated number 1, The Old Course, and Carnoustie as well as many others. I was lucky enough to travel with Matty Adams, John Maginnes, and Mark Carnevale as well as a great group of Golf Channel followers. I also have played in Canada, Bermuda, and Jamaica.
    • Maxfli Tour, shop dick’s deals, add $20 coupon when u spend $100, 4 Dzn for $90 plus tax and shipping…it’s def worth the exercise…let me know how they feel…or just buy a 3 pack to test…have to give them a try…not a better quality / price point out there right now in the ball market…
    • Interesting that no one is gaming the maxfli tour, whether the Tour, the S, or the X….it’s a quality urethane ball and a mid-level price sub $30 / dozen….and Maxfli Tour players out here….I will be playing it next summer as I just stocked up on them….4 dozen for $110 and Dicks has the occasional spend $100, get $20 off which drops it even lower…so far my preference is X just slightly ahead of Tour, and the S trailing pretty far behind…Like many of you, I have played many different balls over the years and trying to dial in a ball / price combo that works…so far the Maxfli Tour and Tour X are my front runners.     fyi, so far, dick’s is not paying me any promo / nil money, lol.   Happy New Year Y’all!
