Sorry, I attached a jpeg but it won't upload. if this won't work, just goto the link. scroll all the way to the bottom and look for "Fitting Chart"

Yes, I know what chart you are talking about, but I guess I was wrong in the statement of "suggested frequency," but I still stand by the rest of my post.

Here's what I play:

I think that is very incorrect, I don't think that you should use the manufacturers data, heck IIRC, on that chart that you mentioned it says "Suggested Shaft." I mean my 6 iron SS is about the same as yours, but my tempo is smooth, so I HATE 6.0's, heck I don't really like 5.5's or S300s. But I think you should choose shafts on feel, and performance, like I said my 6 iron swing speed is right around yours, and my favorite shafts are the R300 and 5.0s. Why? Because my tempo is smooth and I don't load the shaft very well.

yes, I guess preference in "feel" is important too but I was NOT talking about feel but what flex should fit his SS. Based on my experience of course. I still think he should try the 6.0's if he hits his 6 iron anywhere close to 180~185. I don't think you should underestimate math and science in golf. BTW, I noticed you have S300's in your bag?

I think JYB is correct. you should chose your shaft based on the manufacturer's data.

I'm used to hitting a suspected X100 derivative (PING JZ X-Stiff). My launch angle and trajectory with this shaft is little lower than what I really prefer. I have no problem w/the shaft flex or anything like though. I have a fairly smooth tempo but a high swing speed which tends to load shafts pretty easily. My main concern with the S300 is that it would be to soft in the end.

I tried the Project X in a 5.5 because that was all that I could find at the various golf shops in my area. I knew that I wanted something slightly softer than my X-Stiff JZ's (or at least something that would provide me with a slighter higher ball flight) so the logical choice was either the S300, Project X 5.5 or Project X 6.0. The S300 came out to about a 5.75 when I frequency tested it. I do not recall what my JZ's frequency tested to but I would guess that it was in the 6.25-6.5 range. I have yet to fully rule out the Project X. I'm going to start next year with the S300's in my ZM's and see how they work for me. I'm debating on getting an old 695MB demo 6-iron that I can put a Project X 6.0 in. The 695MB is similar enough to my ZM's that I think that it would provide for a nice side by side comparison. I'd still like to test the Project X 6.0 in some way or another but it looks like it's going to cost me a little money to do so. One thing in the whole DG vs PX comparison that I noticed in my testing was that I had a lot more feel with the DG than I did the PX. I'm not sure why that is though. I've always played DG's so I suppose that could have something to do with it? My testing was limited to hitting off of mats too, which could have something to do with it as well. I hate trying to get a good feel for things off of mats which is the biggest reason that, depending on how the S300 works for me in the spring, I'll look into the PX 6.0/6.5 a lot closer.

Yes, I have S300's right now, but I'm getting those changed out when I go to Hawaii in January.

I just got done testing some clubs at the local Golf Galaxy but couldn't really compare them too much b/c they had different shafts. The MP-52s & Nike VR splits had DG S300 and the AP2s had Project X 5.5 flex. I consistently hit the ball higher with the Project X shafts. Just wondering if the S300 and PX 5.5 are supposed to be similar flex shafts? And does one shaft usually produce a higher/lower ball flight than the other? Thanks.

Go to the top of the page and do a search for 'Project X' and/or 'Dynamic Gold'. You will find many threads discussing this topic, it has been hit hard in the last year or so around here. You will be reading for about an hour on past threads.

My quick answer is this. For me, the S-300 and PX 5.5 play about the same. When I hit them side by side, I couldn't tell much of a difference. When you get into the stronger flexes is where I noticed a big difference between the two styles of shafts. A lot of it comes down to what you want the ball to do and what is most comfortable. Most people tend to like one or the other.

BTW, you can get any club with just about any shaft, you are not limited to the 'stock' offering. It just might cost a little more. e.g. The AP-2 comes with the PX shaft, but if you wanted DG, you could get them that way.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

To anyone considering getting new shafts, I highly recommend trying out the KBS Tour before making a decision.

Based on my experience, they have a very similar ball flight to the Project X, in that they tend to rise quick then flatten out, which I think allows me to control distance much better. Especially in the wind.

You also get great feel from these shafts while the Project X tend to play a little too rigid (at least for me).

They really are the best of both worlds, I'm never playing anything else again.

So I see a lot of questions on the internet about the DG S300 vs the Project X 5.5/6.0. I have yet to find many responses on this topic yet though so I thought that I'd through my hat into the ring.

Both DG's & PX's are good shafts, a little different feel tho. Also as the above poster pointed out, look into the KBS shaft which I believe are a little less expensive than PX's.

I have both DG's and PX's. The one thing I noticed about the DG's is that there spines are all over the place and once I spined them they were really sweet. Not a big deal with the PX's tho; all of there spines were pretty subtle. The DG's tend to put a more spin on the ball, but have a little lower trajectory.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
