Alright, after a bad round, I have decided to not go for player's irons this time and go for something between a GI and player's. I have the 57's now, but might as well face it I'm just not consistent enough with them. I love them, the feel, look etc. BUt MY swing just isn't quite there yet.
I was going to go for the AP2's, but...Whatta bout the i10's?
I hit the AP1's, they were nice clubs, but too bulky at address, though I might have to get over that if I want lower scores.
Any insight into such an iront hat might fit would be great.

If you like the looks and feel of the Mizuno MP57's, why not look into the MX line (19 / 25 / 950...). Same Mizuno quality, forged buttery beauties, with the forgiveness of the GI line of irons.

I hit the Ping G10's during a fitting, and liked them, bu the swing analysis only confirmed what I felt with the MX25's - sweet feel, good feedback / response, solid looks, and a great choice.

I agree, from the sounds of it the Mizuno's fit you well excluding the player profile of the irons you chose. I would still look within the brand;

MX-25's
MX-950's
MX-200's
MP-52's (which look comparable to the AP1's)

This is just my opinion, but i think the i10's are terrible. I went to a local pro shop and asked to hit the mx-25's and the guy grabbed about 5 different clubs. The i 10's were one of them. Awful! Too big and i found out what the term "shovel" means. Hit the mx-25's. Awesome clubs.

Dude, you sound like your Mizuno loyal. That's fine but the i10s are not awful. I've been playing the same ping irons for 14 years and my handicap continues to go down. I am considering new irons and I'm not sure if I'll go back to Ping but if I did the i10 would be my choice. I've hit them and they are a really nice iron. A "tweener" club if you will. Forgiving, sweet when hit pure and even not so pure, sets up great at address. Should work for several levels of handicappers. Yours is 19. Hmm?

Shovel? They i10 clubheads are smaller than my Bridgestone J33 CB's, and smaller then some other heads. It is fine that you don't like the irons, but things that are facts (clubhead size, etc.) you need to find out what is true.

Here's what I play:

Well, thanks for the repies. Hit some today...
The i10's were not for me, the s57's felt really nice.
The new Mizuno 52, I prefer my 57's.
Low and behold out of curiosity I hit a used set of...gasp...Macgregor VIP foil irons and wow! I hit the heck out of them, even the long irons which I can;t normally do!
So, still negotiating a price due to the need for new grips on them, but I think I Must have them. Seriously freaked me out sorta.
Wonder if the new Mac's would be any better for me? NO dealers at all around me.

Dude honestly, you have one of the nicest sets of irons out there right now... yes they are player's irons, but much more forgiving than you think. There is no sense in gettin rid of the 57's once you start practicing more with them your gonna learn you love the player profile. Before you know it with practice you will hit them as well as any other iron. Keep the 57s!!!!!!

I thought about that after i wrote that. I am not sure if it was the g-10 or the i-10. But (just my opinion) they sucked. Just not for me. Would rather play the mx-25's any day of the week, or my 845's to be honest. And my handicap is now down to a 14. Not much better i know.

Think I might, or go for the new CM's, but why keep looking of those older ones work ya know.
The price is around $50 higher than ebay, but...might as well.

Both the G10s and the I10s are great irons. It is your preference, which is clearly geared to Miz.

Maybe he got the i10 confused with the G10 is my guess. The i10 are the smallest ping irons i've seen head size. Smaller than their player irons S57.

I am thinking the same thing, and he said that a few posts up

Play whatever works for you. Good luck with the Macs.

I think the best irons are the ones you keep in you bag for years. There is a whole bonding thing with a great set of irons. I switched irons 5 times in 3 years looking for that magic set. I don't think switching is in and of itself a bad thing. But right now the set in my bag (no brand or model endorsed) has been there for a record 9 months. I am more accurate with these than any others I've had. I think that has little to do with the make or model.

I just refuse to let a bad day or month pull them out. I've had many great shots and damn near aces to put in my memory bank. I know within 10 yards how far they will hit. I know how they react when I hit them fat or thin. I know how to draw them a bit and how to hit them high or low. I know the 8 iron is prone to rust and the PW hits rainmakers.

Once you pick a set and stick with them you'll begin to build so much confidence that they pay you back in better shots, when times are good are bad happy or sad.

    • Day 21 - Good session with driver and 6i. Hitting real golf balls is quite a bit different from the foam balls, still getting used to that change.
    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
    • Day 4: 3/26/25 Par4Success workout followed by putting through 50 mm gates.
    • Day 249: did a stack putting session and then worked on 5 foot putts for a bit.
