So after messing around on this forum and doing tons of research, I went over to the golf shop today in Bayside, NY and picked up a brand new set of Mizuno MP 52's.

Thank you to everyone who gave me input on club fittings and irons. I ended up getting them standard as i'm only a little over 6'0" with sneakers on and the pro there told me since I was only a 25 handicap I don't have to be worrying about fittings.

I had originally wanted to get the 57's but I saw that they had the 52's out for 2009. More forgiving and it uses dual muscle back technology for the 3-7 irons and the 8,9,P use cavity musclebacks.

Plus this guy gave me a sick deal so anyone from NYC let me know if you are interested in Mizunos (or any clubs for that matter), this guy sold me a brand new set with rifle shafts for 800 cash no tax and if i stuck with the dynamic shafts he was gonna do it for 750 with no tax...

thanks again for all the advice and i will be enjoying these irons..

What was the objection to the DG shafts?

And did he say why he thought fitting was a waste of time for you? My guess is that he was thinking it might be hard to find a repeatable swing - which returns me to my first question about the shafts - I know it was only $50 but why did the pro recommend them, but not a fitting? What did he think these shafts would do for you? Mizunos are fine irons - hope you enjoy them.

You're dead on about the repeatable swing part.

When i asked him about shafts, he said that that was the only thing he would not and could not give me advice for. He said stiffer usually just means more control and since i'm a younger guy and I have always had a problem with control and don't care much for distance, I went with the stiffer project x's (plus they didn't have DG's in stock and i'm a little impatient haha). I'm glad i didn't get fitted because right afterwards, I went to the range and hit a large bucket with my 4 and 7 irons and i didn't slice a single ball (both recommendations I received told me to get 1 upright so with standard clubs and no slicing, I was happy I didn't). This guy was the only person who gave it to me straight so he was either a really good salesperson or he knew what he was talking about. I myself was pretty confused about fittings and now i personally believe that anyone who has a handicap over a 15 and who isn't over 6'2" doesn't really need custom clubs. I figure custom clubs could possible reinforce bad swing habits, but i'm guessing many others disagree. Thanks

Congrats on the sticks. That's a pretty sick, price, too. (The cheapest I've seen that set if for over $1000)

About your lie angle, IMO, have them checked. Although your not slicing the ball, a good fitter can tweak them even the slightest and improve your shot-making. It takes about 30 seconds.
