I'm going to buy a new iron set, most likely Mizuno, maybe Titleist.

The season is pretty much over here, won't start again until march next year. I don't need the clubs until then.

I'd guess the prices wont go up the next months, so waiting could work. But I know from other sports that equipment is usually on sale at the end of the season to clear out the old models.

Is there anything like this in golf? I'll probably buy from Golfsmith.

Ogio Grom | Callaway X Hot Pro | Callaway X-Utility 3i | Mizuno MX-700 23º | Titleist Vokey SM 52.08, 58.12 | Mizuno MX-700 15º | Titleist 910 D2 9,5º | Scotty Cameron Newport 2 | Titleist Pro V1x and Taylormade Penta | Leupold GX-1

Here is a thread similiar to yours just created. Unfortunatly there are no replies. I do know that TGW.com is constantly having clearance sales now that the season is over. It seems to be during winter that prices drop.

Yup! and right before the new models ship, usually right before Christmas. So the next few months, if you buy old stock, you'll get good prices. Another good time for used stuff is E-bay right after Christmas, people will sell some older stuff, cause they got new stuff from Santa...

If you are willing to buy clubs that are last year's leftover or non-current clubs, now would be a good time because now is when you start seeing new golf equipment come out (just in time for the holidays), so you can get a deal on obsolete equipment.

I wouldn't go that far as to say they are "

obsolete ", some of the last year's models aren't much different from this years.

It depends on what you want to buy. If you want something that is a new model wait for about a year after they come out. If you want a discontinued model (Mizuno Mp-60, Nike CCI) then get them when the replacements hit the market. Like Dent mentioned, I get about 4-5 e-mails a week from TGW about discontinued products. I have found the best deals on current equipment to be the winter months. But don't wait too long, the closer to spring the prices tend to creep back up.

It is kind of like buying a car. You best deal on a 2008 will be when the new 2009's come out in August-October.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

No matter what clubs you get and when you get them, sooner or later they will become obsolete.

Interesting subject. I'm considering getting fitted for some Big Bertha '08's and my wife would like to get fitted for Adams A3OS's. (We are both high handycap golfers and have demoed a lot of clubs) So far there is not much pricing imagination when talking to seller/fitters in my area. I would think that manufacturers and sellers would get creative if they have been watching the latest economic news on TV. Just my impression or maybe I was in sales for just too many years?

I'd have to settle with older models of course, I'm not sure yet. A new, custom fitted Mizuno set will cost over $900-1000. I can probably get a discontinued model for $6-700.

Any chance the clubs that are released this fall will drop in price at some point before next spring?

Very unlikely...not much if at all.

I'll second this question - I want some Pings.

If you keep it simple - the best time to buy is when you need them. Waiting for the magic moment can often frustrate, and lead you to forever guess whether you got the "right" price.

My $.02 (after the bailout impact to my 401K).

Wait a minute...that's right. Are you either a politician or poli-sci major? Working both sides of the aisle is gonna get you in trouble...

I find any time I wait too long for that final price drop, the product I'm interested in disappears, never to be seen again. That's really annoying when you are trying to complete a set of something.....

Today's bag holds...

CGB Max 9.5 driver
CGB Max 3/5 woods
CGB Max irons Rossa Spider putter...and way more golf balls than anyone should rightfully carry!
