I'm looking to upgrade my 580xd and want to get one of the r7's. What is the difference between the original r7 and the r7 425 other than a bigger head? I tried the r7 425 out lastnight and liked it but they didnt have an original r7 to test out. With the price being $200 dollars different im leaning towards the orig. r7 cause I can't seem to see what the real difference would be for an average golfer like myself. Can you guys help me decide. Is the 425 worth the extra $200 dollars? P.S. - I'm going with a 10.5 degree this time.

Without knowing how much free cash you have, which none of us would ever ask you, of course, it's tough to say whether it's worth it (for you) for $200.

I'd get the 425, because it seems to be pretty spiffy. I never did get along with the original r7 much.

Tried both and I have to say go with the 425. The face seems to have more feel than the old R7. Beside can't go wrong with new technologies.

I am having the same dilemma as I said in a different thread. My problem is the offset of the new r7(425). It's hard for me to compare the drivers because I've never played a round with the new r7(425). I've only hit it on the range and on launch monitors. However, from what I've experienced, I think the new r7 is a little longer, but not by much, only about 5-10yards. The big difference was forgiveness. I found the new r7(425) to be much for forgiving on off-center hits. As for my choice, I dont know yet. Like I said the increase in offset of the new r7(425) compared to its original is a turnoff for me, but I'm interested in getting the newest technology possible. I think I'll end up waiting for the 905r.

There's no offset. It's a driver. I've seen it, used it, hit with it. There's no offset.

The R is a replacement for the T, so if you're a 905T kinda guy, cool. But if you play a 905S (or could), the R may not be for you.

well after spending the weekend swing both the original r7 and the r7 425 i have decided to go with the r7 425 after i save up alittle more money. The 425 is just alot more consistent due to the better shaft and there is more room for forgiveness. so does anyone know where i can get one for the lowest price besides ebay. my retail stores are selling it for 399.99 and im hoping to get about 125.00 for my 580xd so im looking at about 275.00 in my retail stores. anyone know anywhere that would be lower than 399.99. thanks

Email the golf gods fellow that posts here - worst case, you can probably use a coupon to save some percentage.

Sorry, maybe I used the wrong terminology however, "While the r7 425cc Quad driver still features the ultimate in ball flight customization with four weight ports and four removable weight cartridges, the larger size also promotes exceptional forgiveness for longer, straighter shots — even on off-center hits.

A slightly closed clubface alignment is pleasing to the eyes, further increasing confidence and accuracy. " http://www.golfsmith.com/products/TM7425 The driver may not be offset, but when placed side by side with the r7(400cc) it appears to have a slightly closed face. That is all I was meaing to say. Personally I've never played either driver in the 905 series. I've hit the 905t on the range but I dont know whether I "could play" the 905s or not. Once the 905r comes into my local shop I'll demo it and see what I think. Thanks.

I know Erik hates them, but I'd check eBay . You should get it for no more than 330 (brand new). I played both clubs - old and 425 and I'm not "sold". Neither really fit me. from the look / feel / distance point of view - neither matches the 510TP. Maybe it's the smaller head, maybe it's the hollow sound r7's make... Duno. I also had 580XD for a while, a very short while
IMHO - extra $200 is not worth it, but if you decide to go r7 and the MWT - get the old r7 TP - good shaft and plenty of weights to play with.
