Hello!

I'm going to New York in a few weeks with some friends and our wives and was wondering whether anyone can recommend a good course to maybe get a round at while the ladies shop?

We probably wouldn't bring our clubs so would want to rent some, so a reasonably priced course would be good- any recommendations?

Thanks!

Hello!

I know I've advocated for my home course plenty on this forum, but it appears

Van Cortlandt Golf Course meets your criteria. It's probably the most accessible course to main Manhattan by public transportation (1 train to the last stop in the Bronx - approx 45 minutes from Times Square as a reference). Reasonably priced and they have relatively new sets of Nike clubs for rental. Not sure what condition the course is in right now though (I haven't played in a month).

Not sure how courses like Clearview Park and Dyker Beach are in terms of club rental.

Big question - are you going to have a car? If not, you're limited to Van Cortlandt and Dyker Beach (a very good way to get to/from dyker is the X28 Bus from Broadway right to Dyker.)

Thanks for both your responses; we won't have a car so we will either need to hire one or we'll just take public transport!

I've had a look at the website for Van Cortlandt and it doesn't show much but it's definitely a good option- it'll just be good to have a game while we're there, i'll have a look at Dyker Beach now.

Any idea what they charge for club rental? Don't worry if you don't know i'll email them- thanks for both of your help!

If you won't be carrying clubs around the J train gets close enough to Forest Park to walk to the course. No idea about rentals there.

I would think that if your coming to NY, you should definitely get a zipcar and come out to Bethpage. Also, Pelham/Split Rock if you want to golf near the city. Oh and Maple Moor is fairly easy and nice. All are fairly reasonable in price.

Both the World of Golf and the NY Golf Center rent clubs, if the most convenient course doesn't have rentals or rent what you like. I think it's in the neighborhood of $30.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
