Welcome Anneliese. I'm assuming you're a golfer. Are you trying out or playing on your school's golf team? I wish I could go back and give that a shot, even though my high school didn't have a golf team (I grew up in Alaska).

Peace.

Hi, nice to meet you.

Yes, I am trying out for my schools Golf team. Tryouts are on Monday, I'm pretty nervous, I'm going to go to the driving range this weekend with my dad, my dad was a professional golfer at Red Run. So he can help me out. I really want to make it, and if I do, we get to travel to Florida on Spring Break. Golf runs in the family, my cousin, Brian, who is a Senior got a Golf scholarship to University of Detroit, he wanted to go to Michigan State University, but he did terrible when the scouts watched him, so he decided to go to UOD.
Have any tips for me, when I practice this weekend?
Thanks.

Hey, a fellow Michigander. I live pretty close to Red Run, I'm in Bloomfield Hills.

Good luck at tryouts and try to work on basic things like alignment and full shoulder turns at the range this weekend.

Welcome to the boards. Good luck with everything.

Great spirits will always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

    • I've been watching golf for 35 years and I've seen my fair share of exciting events, but I cannot recall ever watching so much up and down in the fortunes of one player in one round of golf. How good the good shots were and how bad the bad shots were and how he was leading, then not, then leading again, then way clear, then tied, then behind, then leading, then in a playoff, then winning. Heck I aged just watching it on the TV - Rory must have gone through some stuff out there. Just incredible. Consider that Rory had two double bogeys, three bogeys, six birdies, and Rose made only 4 pars, 4 bogeys, and 10 birdies. 10! Round that place? Mind officially blown.
    • Yea it doesn’t suck. I didn’t score well but most of it came down to short game and putting. I had 3 holes I can directly blame bad long game shots on. I’m just trying to hedge my bets. If I don’t make it as a professional golfer, I could be a fitness model as a backup plan.

    • Good episode on Skill versus Technique. I agree with definitions. It makes sense in my head that skill is part learned and part just genetics. Technique is mostly learned but also can be limited by your own skill in how well you develop motor patterns, which is a skill.  They are intertwined together to a point, but definitely not the same.
