As you can see in my sig, I have regular woods/ and a hybrid. I hit the driver fantastic and the same for the hybrid, but the 3 wood I've sometimes snap hooked. I'm sure it is not my swing plane as my plane is pretty much where I want it to be, very vertical, it's not way inside or anything like that. My grip is fine, I play 2 knuckles up on my left hand and 2 on my right. I have quiet hands, I'm just wondering if a regular shaft can cause a hook, or what the effects of a too whippy or a too stiff shaft are. I've really been blasting drives, I was like 80 out on a 370 yard par 4 the other day, I guess my tempo is slow but it's what works. Give me some advice on the shaft stiffness stuff though please!
Thanks!

I would have a clubmaker look into the face angle of that 15* fairway wood. If you need more info about that repost.

For most golfers/swings as shafts get "flexxier" the ball will tend to go left (for a rightie). This is because (for most golfers) the shaft is flexxing forward at impact.

But this is not a universal truth.

I find I have more control with stiff shafts (woods and irons). My swing speed with my driver is 100 to 105 mph. I tried a driver with a regular shaft but would miss equally right and left.

I hit my driver pretty good I think, I can work it whichever way I want, I just think maybe my 3 wood is messed up, I don't always hook it, on good shots it's around 240 with a high draw. The same is true for my 6 iron, those are the only two clubs I sometimes hook. It's weird. I'm possibly getting a 9 degree cobra l4v soon, so hopefully I will get more yards and control.

You want more than 240 yards with a 3W? That's already a good distance, but if you feel that you are not getting the most out of they club, then I hope it works out for you. Depending the shafts there might be a completely different feel. The stiffer the shaft generally the more control you have, due to less flex, however, at the beginning the "less flex" might mess up your wrist timing.

Well 250 would be nice, as I play numerous par 5s over 550. One close is like 610. Pretty tough. I'm more concerned with getting a lower ball flight from my driver, which would equate to more distance, as my current distance is 100 percent carry.

How much would it be to have my driver 3 wood and hybrid reshafted with v2s? Would that also affect the warranty at all?
Thanks.

Just saw this. A few thoughts.

1. There's no standard in shafts, so your driver shaft could be playing stiffer than your 3W shaft. Not sure how the YS-6 plays.

2. I believe it will void the warranty. Cost and install vary depending on fitter, but you shouldn't pay more than $100 total for each club. V2's retail for about $70.

3. If you hit your driver and Hybrid "fantastic" I would leave them alone. Do the 3W first and see how you like it and then press.

Good luck.

Ok, i just find it weird, since i Have the same shaft in my hybrid and 3 wood. I'm bidding a 906 3 wood with v2. it might be cheaper just to buy a new one.

lol with my normal swing, just slightly above normal swing with no glove, so i wasn't even swinging full. I was pretty much hitting off a tee barely teed up to my sweet spot, and was somehow launching it at 20 degrees. It would carry like 215 and roll back like 2 feet. It was horrible, I really need stiff/lower loft.

If a shaft is too whippy would it cause a hook or a pull? Also would it cause a high ball flight? Thanks a lot

For most golfers a shaft that isn't stiff enough will cause the face to be more closed and more lofted at impact vs. a shaft with the right flex. This is just a general rule and may not be true in every, single case. But is true for most golfers. dave

I can't remember if it's to whippy or to stiff that causes hooks or pulls but the wrong shaft will cause you to hit shots that are not as good as having the right shaft, and yes a whippy shaft will cause you to hit high shots it will cause more spin so your ball will baloon, and those sweet shots that look like there going a mile only to drop out of the sky like a rock thats caused from having to much spin.

A good shaft to try is the Aldila nv65s do you know your swing speed launch angle and spin rate with your current driver?

I notice sometimes with my driver when I increase my ss I start to get an uncontrolled pull. So is that partially due to the shaft being too whippy?

Also there are times when I will make perfect contact with a decent spped and the ball seems to just die after 150 yards. Anyone have a problem like this?

What shaft areyou playing, what is the flex and what is the loft of your driver?

aslo what is your clubhead speed spin rate angle of attack and smash factor if you dont know these things a good club fitter with a good launch monitor and track man can tell you and get you fitted with A:The right shaft or B:The right loft shaft combo this will help you out aloy it sounds like your driver is balooning on you and could be your shaft is too tip soft or your loft is to much or your to steep and creating alot more spin than you should be.

So when you tee off, the ball just lands? doesn't bounce and roll at all? It just "lands"?

I recommend you see a clubfitter to install some reality into your game.

You describe your swing as upright, Stow, but if you're hooking that spoon, I would bet that the lie is too upright anyway.

I don't play a 3-wood anymore, but I had trouble hooking lofted metal fairway woods because they came with upright lie angles and weren't bendable.

I went back to wood on the fairways, which isn't necessary. You just need to find something with a flatter lie angle.

That's my experience, anyway.
