My old Titleist Vokeys are worn and need replacement. I like the Vokey Design alot, but want to give another brand a try. The ones I am looking at are either Callaway or Cleveland, but would consider others. I am surprised at the difference in even "inexpensive" wedges since I bought the Vokeys, many years ago. I picked up a couple of Dunlop Knife wedges to play around with today and was pleasantly surprised with them. I just need a brand that has options in bounce and loft, and the "inexpensive" brands do not.

A really nice wedge: Cleveland 588 Tour Action. You can purchase them, brand new, for about $50-$60. Good feel and sets up nicely at address. Give them a try. Even though they're not Vokeys, they're still pretty good.

I looked at the 588, but can't find a decent selection locally. My daughter has a soccer tournament out of town tomorrow, I thought I might check out some of the golf shops between games. Hopefully one will have a decent selection of the 588s. I really like the CG12 Black Pearl series, too. All my friends tell me to get the Callaway X-forged, since all of my other clubs are Callys. Wedges are my only hold-out, because I have never been pleased with their selection(low-low bounce 60 * LW for example).

kekoa, thanks for the Fourteen recommendation, but they are a little out of my price range. I am looking at getting three wedges(GW,SW,LW). My wife would divorce me if I spent that kind of money.

I carry all Vokey wedges but added a Callaway X-Forged a few months ago in a 64*. This was before Vokey released their new line with the 64*.

The X-Forged has a profile very similar to the Vokeys. It swings just a touch lighter (D4 vs. D5) and has a softer feel. The club spins as much as my SM 56 and 60 did new, but part of this may be due to the higher loft. But I've noticed this spin on chips more than anything so I think the grooves are solid. My 64 has 9 degrees of bounce which is a nice all around number for me since I never hit an open faced flop. The club seems very accurate on distances from shot to shot. If you are a Callaway man I'd strongly consider these. Maybe you can hit a demo or a friend's X-Forged. These probably don't have as much shelf appeal as Titleist or Cleveland wedges. But they are very solid wedges.

I also like the look and feel of the CG14s at address. The Cg12s are right with them, but I have yet to hit either. Just my two cents.

Good luck!

Give Mizuno a try! I play the MP-R's and they're probably one of the best wedges I've played with. They're weighted nicely and the grain flow forged iron makes for some sweet feeling shots. It has a more rounder shaped head but I like it.

The lowest price I have ever seen for the Fourteen V4 is 199.99 each, and the V3 for 169.99. They can probably be found a little cheaper, but my max for one wedge is $110.

yes, but i got my v4's for around $150 each. if anyone is interested, i can get the same for you. a buddy of mine owns a shop here. they come in any loft you want and you can get nippon or dg shafts. the v3 are even cheaper.

having played the cleveland cg12 and vokey spin milled, the v4's are really worth the price especially since i use them so much in a round. gl

The nike SV tour wedges are very good, they have the same classic shape of the vokeys and generate more than enough spin. You may find them reduced now the new TW wedges are on sale.
The latest RAM wedges also caught my eye, almost identical to the SV tour at address.

I have 2 Callaway X Tour forged wedges, 52° and 58°, and I like them a lot. My SW is a 56° Cleveland, and I like it too. The Callaways were just $125 sticker price in the pro shop at the course. You could probably find them cheaper (I paid a lot less with my employee discount, which is why I bought them there).

Thanks for all of the recommendations, I put them to good use at the shop today. Lucky for me the shop had a very good demo selection, so I got to hit balls with several clubs; Nike SV, Callaway X, several Cleveland models, Titleist, Hippo, Pure Spin, etc. My decision was between the Nike SV Black and Cleveland CG12 Black Pearl. The Clevelands won out; a 50-10, a 54-12, and a 58-8.

I also hit some very interesting "inexpensive" Intech/Knight Raxorwire Coilspin wedges. WOW, what some spin they had? At only $24, it was too bad they are USGA illegal. I got one in 60* anyway, for s**ts and giggles.
