I have a G10 4 wood. I like it. It's easy to hit from any decent lie. I am confident enough in it to go over water to a green at 235ish.

I voted Taylormade Burner 2008 Tour Launch.

I have a couple of them (14.5 and 17.5) - the 5 wood has immediately become my favourite club in the bag, my new "go to club" and great from anywhere. I love the trajectory i get (60 gram shaft, a touch lighter than the stock shaft). I get nice run on the ball too (never did before).

The 3 wood is taking a little longer to get used to, but when I make a connection it goes a good 260 in the air plus run if conditions allow, outdriving my jealous playing partners drive with a driver! I've lost a couple low and right but they were weak shots in high wind. This club might even replace the driver. I can see myself using it every hole at my home course off the tee.

My favorite is a Callaway Big Bertha 2004 5+ wood. It's a 5 wood head and shaft but with a 4 wood loft (17*). It's the only fairway wood I carry. With a moderate face size, it's playable from a variety of lies and good off the tee. It only has a very slight draw bias (I think).

Sorry, I should have explained more... I started this poll to see which of last "season's" big brand fairway wood releases are the most popular at the Sand Trap. I want to see if there are any trends in opinion or if there was something good I did not note about one of the woods.

None of last "season's" fairway releases made a lasting impression with me. There sure were a lot of them, though. Added Comments about other fairway woods from different brands or past years are welcome. These are some that caught my eye:

Demoed, big brand:

Adams Insight BUL - Nice "hot" sound
Cleveland HiBORE - Like the scooped crown
Cobra Speed LD '07 - Hits good, looks good
Cobra Speed LD OS '07 - Hits good, looks better
Ping Rapture (V1) - Big & confidence inspiring
TaylorMade r7 CGV MAX - Looks awesome, difficult

Not Demoed:

Henry Griffitts RDH Deep
Honma BERES MG713
Honma BERES MG812
Louisville Niblick DC
Snake Eyes Mamba 2
Tour Edge Exotics XLD

Owned:

1990 Ram Laser X2 - Easiest 3-wood ever!
1998 Cobra Ti Offset - Solid
1987 Ping Eye 2 - Beautiful when refinished blonde
1987 PowerBilt Citation Persimmon - True classic
1988 Spalding Executive - Unorthodox

Down Warhound, Down

, I'm with the minority here, the best woods were not listed, the ping i3 series (IMHO). Off Subject, If I hear another person (Johnny Miller) say fairway metals I'll release Warhound and will not be held responsible for the consequences. They are no more metals than irons are "steels" or "titaniums". I feel better now. ..... jmoc

I think the fact that few people's favorites are among the list of new woods says something I always suspected. Fairway woods often have the most seniority in a player's bag. Once most people find one they like, they stick with them for a while. A lot of people only change woods as their swings change or their bag setups get tweaked. It just means a lot to have a long hitting club in the bag which has performed in the past. Whether you hit high, low, left or right it's very important to have confidence that you know what a club will do. Old fairway woods are like good old hunting dogs, loyal and reliable. New fairway woods are kinda like those puppys at the mall stores - pretty to look at, fun to play with, but not as appealing when you think about the commitment ahead.

Just a thought.

Please don't feel "discriminated against" by the poll choices. I made this poll and even my all-time favorite fairway wood is not listed. There are just too many models out there, so I had to limit the list to the most recent releases and most common brands.

Interesting enough, nobody has voted for an Adams wood yet. That is amusing, since I would have thought that brand more associated with fairway woods than any of the others listed.
