In our area, some communities did a very nice job of honoring our Vets, living and dead, and others did nothing. It is sad that patriotism was "in vogue" right after September 11th, but now, many people tend to forget what it means to serve OUR country on the front lines. Our local newspaper had a nice article about an Army Vet from World War II who is now 91 years old, and still cannot talk about the war. "What do you want me to talk about---blood and guts?" he asked the reporter. "Well, I will not do that. It is too painful."

At the state park by the lake there was an exhibit of 1000 full size flags in the shape of a rectangle. Each flag could be purchased and the proceeds went to disabled vets. Lighted with construction site lighting, the exhibit was open 24 hours each day for the weekend.

EVERYONE involved is to be commended for what they did. Stories like yours are very heartening!!

In Canada, we call November 11th Remembernce Day, in line with the last day of World War One. We have a large ceremony in Ottawa, and then each city and town across the country has a ceremony at their Cenotaph.

Canada only has one surviving WW I veteran left, and he was included in the ceremony in Ottawa were they passed a torch from soldier to soldier, all from the different wars Canada has been involved in. It was quite touching, especially with troops overseas right now.

Thanks for the post. I have some friends who are from Canada, and one of them is from Peterboro, Ontario. We have never discussed November 11th, so I was not aware that it is Remembrance Day.
