This sight always reminds me that work is over and it's time to blow off steam and relax with friends or simply enjoy some quiet time navigating the course on my own.

I usually have some good tunes pumping as I make this turn into what I think of as "The Gates of Freedom".....my home course. It's not uncommon to see a deer crossing just beyond the gate....they are stacked up in the woods surrounding the course...lots of hardwood drains and pine thickets.

This is the 4th course that I've been a member off and I plan on staying here a while. 27 vastly different holes make for an interesting and fresh routing on each golf outing. The course is usually in superb shape...especially the difficult greens (only it's wintered up now...can't be helped...grasses going dormant). You have a very diverse group of members in every sense of the word that makes is fun to just show up and get paired with someone. The staff goes out of their way to assist you and are extremely friendly.

If you find yourself in the Augusta, Georgia area...then try to play Gordon Lakes GC.

Hey, Dub,

My mother lives in Aiken, SC, just down the road. She's lived there about 10 years and I've not yet gotten to play golf in the area (although we did drive by Augusta National a few years ago). I was supposed to play a private club called The Palmetto Club a couple years back but got rained out. What courses in the area do you recommend (public and not too expensive)? I'm usually down there sometime around the beginning of October (hurricane season, apparently).
