i played this year at 3 degress are you guys talking celsus cause if so 20 is nothing at all i play in 3 degress just put on some pants and a windshirt

It'll be Fahrenheit rather than Celcius. Does the U.S.

do Celcius? I used to play on frozen ground and in brisk winds......as a junior. Can remember glasses getting blown off one day when the temperature was sub-zero (°C). Sorry to have to say I'm a wuss now. I don't mind wind and/or rain (it's the U.K. here after all) but my body tends to think of warmer things these days during the winter. That said, playing Saturday and the forecast is for sunny but anywhere from -2°C to +4°C. Doh!

Will I play in the 20's??? I hope so.... that's only 12 years away... I won't be that old!!!!

I've played when it was 29 degrees (F) here is Cleve-burg, and I'm sure (if there is NO snow on the ground), I will do it again!!!!

Gladly!!!!

When I lived in Fargo ND, if it was in the 20's (F) during the winter, we called that a heat wave and would have loved to play golf .... unfortunately, there would be way too much snow still.

In Billings, MT, we'd play in the winter on a couple of the courses that were set up. As long as the snow was only in patches and not blanketed, we'd play in sunny cold weather. The ground was frozen, lakes were solid enough to walk on, and the balls would bounce forever (including on the greens).

Im going in about an hour and a half. Supposed to be 32*F...my roommate is saying he doesn't want to go because its too cold... weak!

But yeah, Id play in the 20s. As long as I have my thermal underwear and handwarmers, its all good!

Not me. That's too cold. I'll play in the 30's if the wind is light. But hell no in the 20's.

I'm in Michigan and would like to get out for one more round yet this year. I'm just not sure how the hell I'm gonna tee the ball up. I figured worst case I'd hit my hybrid off all the tee boxes.

I will play this winter. There is a course close to where I live that is open all winter. For those in Metro Detroit (Chandler Park is $10 bucks to play 9 or 18 once the carts are put away for the winter). I don't know about the other metro park courses though.

20 (farenheit) is about my minimum. I have played a few rounds with highs around 28-30, where the temp was below 20 at tee time, but usually warms before very long. My rule is I'll play in any 2 of the 3 'bad' weather elements (wind, cold and rain), but I will not play in all 3.

I do not mind playing in cold weather in most cases as long as I'm expecting it and can dress accordingly. I swear by Under Armour Cold Gear (or the equivalents from Nike or Reebok and other companies) and Wool. For those kind of temperatures I'm usually decked out in 4-5 very thin layers (topped by wool sweater and wind-proof jacket), wool socks and a wool cap. I have winter golf gloves (Footjoy WinterSof) but they do not come out unless temperature is under 30. If I keep my ears and feet warm I'm usually fine.

For some reason I often play better in these cold conditions. Just take low-compression golf balls and swing easier. If you're walking it doesn't seem all that cold anyway.

it's getting cold out here in New England and I will continue to play until the snow comes (and courses stay open). It is great for me because I can walk the course by myself and not worry about holding people up because of my handicap...

The weather forecast for Sunday is -3 to -4° C and I cannot imagine not going for a quick game. Maybe not 18 holes but certainly one or two hours outside playing. It'll be my first time doing that but I am confident that with the right clothes it won't be too bad

Wanted to play so baldy this weekend but then the course was closed due to snow

We found an indoor-place and gave that a try but it just didn't come close to the real thing. Yes you can hit some balls and play a bit but it just didn't quite do it for us. It's just too strange to be looking at a heap of pixels (anyone ever played on an HighDef-system?) and the short game is very hard to judge. Also, when you play badly on the course its one thing, when you play badly virtually it is much more frustrating.

30 is my minimum.

I might hit the driving range on a colder day, if it's heated and it's open, but forget about 18 holes below 30.
In fact, 30's I'm thinking 9 holes not 18.

Today was a great day in the mid to upper forties on L.I. (NY) -- great day for 18 holes.

The 20's is a little too cold for me, mainly since my toes start to freeze up. Guess I could try to wear extra socks or buy some insulated golf shoes.

I was at an unheated driving range one evening a month ago (I was the only one left), and I think the temperature was down in the mid-30's. Suddenly I realized I could not feel my right big toe, so I immediately quit, leaving about 20 range balls behind. The toe was OK, but I probably came close to getting frostbite.

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
