Just throwing the question out there. Is a Scotty Cameron any better than the $19 putter in the bargain box at WallyMart???? I have also seen $19 look alikes to the classic Odysee 2-ball putter. Is there any real difference?

If an expensive putter doesn't make putts for you, it's worthless to you. One of the best putters I ever had was a cheap garage sale thing I got 30 years ago and still use sometimes today. The best putter for anyone is the one that feels good and you have the confidence in that you can make putts.
My Equipment:
Northwestern 3-, 5-, 7- and 9-wood;
Goldwin AVDP Irons (5-10 plus PW);
U.S. Golf 60 degree wedge;
See-More Putter; Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 Rangefinder;Golflogix GPS.

Here is a good example. Here is a putter that is currently listed on eBay for $5,495. I have a putter that looks like it was cast of a mold made from this putter. The one I have came as part of a cheap boxed set of clubs I bought for $129 at The Sports Authority back when I first started playing the game.

I think, like anything else, you pay for what you get. So in general more $$$=better product. At the same time, a putter, no matter what it costs, will not make the putts for you. It's up to you to do that. So if you are able to do that with a $5 putter than I wouldn't worry about what you can do with a $5000 putter. For me, the consistency and feel I get out my Cameron that I got in 2000 for $175 brand new will keep me satisfied for the rest of my golfing "career."

For me, I feel my scotty was well worth the cash.

I definitely have more feel using it than I did with my old Nike mallet. (especially with the faster greens I now play on)

But if you cant putt, it really doesnt matter what you have.

I'm glad that you added the second half of that sentence, Smallville.

My two putters that always felt best to me were both hickory shafted models, an Otey Crisman and a Kenneth Smith. I think that I'm going to make everything when I pull the trigger, but I can't seem to roll the ball into a sunken fifty-five gallon drum with either one.

IMHO no, they are not worth it. As long as you have something flat attached to the end of the stick and practice with it, you can put the ball in the hole. As others have stated it is all about how it feels in your hands. I have a really older putter that is beat up and rugged. It looks like the type of stick you would get at the putt-putt course, but I have practiced with it and I am consistent. So go with what feels good to you. If you really like the style of a more expensive brand, get a clone. The technology differences in putters are almost non-existent compared to other clubs. So go with what feels good

And the resale value of the $5500 putter in ten years? Might be $9k. Yours? $9.

It's silly to compare collectibles to equipment.

Yeah, there is. If you don't care to acknowledge them, so be it, but others do.

This question has a very simple answer, and it never changes: it's different for everyone. Some people feel the value is worth it. Some don't. Use what you're happy with and don't try to convince anyone else that they should spend more or that they're wasting their money. End of story.
