Hey guys, I'm still a bit new to the world of golf equipment, and this is my most recent dillema.

I'm looking to get a club or two for christmas to help complete my set, and for the life of me I can't get this all straightened out.

Ideally, I'd like to get a matching 3 iron to go with my set... however that is proving to be incredibly difficult to find. I'd also like to get a 3 wood. So, as a substitute for the 3 iron I'm looking at a TaylorMade Rescue Mid 3 Hybrid, which is lofted at 19*, which will fall under my 4 iron which is lofted at 23*. My 5 wood is also lofted at 19*. Would there be any point to having two clubs of the same loft in my bag, or would this be a stupid purchase?

If I did happen to come across a 3 iron to match my set, it would be lofted at 20* (if this information is useful at all).

Sorry if this post is confusing, I'm a bit confused myself, and am really just looking to make the smartest purchase!

Im getting a 3 hybrid for christmas. It is going to be 21 degrees and my 4 iron is the same loft as yours. Im also getting a 5-wood which is going to be 18.5. That said id get a 21 or 20 degree hybrid. Whatever you choose let us know and good luck.

A 5W would probably go a bit farther than a 3h because it has a longer shaft. The accuracy, however, depends on your swing. Generally, people who have flatter swings hit woods better; people who have steeper swings hit irons and hybrids better. I don't know the technical reason (angle of attack and that stuff) but I'm pretty sure that it's true.
If I were you, I would try various hybrid models with different shafts. Compare the results (at a range or launch monitor - depends where you go to try hybrids) to you 5W and see what's better for you.

I just picked up a Titleist 909H 21deg to fill my 3/2 iron gap. The new 909s are excellent clubs! The Diamana Blue 80 H shaft (made for Titleist) is very nice too!! I've been playing a 585H and find the new 909/shaft combo a great improvement. I've never been a real big fan of Hybrids, but these new ones are killer.

you might have some luck finding a 3 iron on ironfinders.com. often it is fine to get a matching 3 iron but you can make it so you get an alert if/when they get it in.

I carry a 3-wood, 19* hybrid, 21* hybrid and the 3-iron. I do not carry a 5-wood. For me the 21* hybrid goes the same distance as a 3-iron which for me is about 210 to 225. The 21* hybrid is just easier to hit and I also use it for t-shots on short par fours. I keep the 3-iron in the bag because I can work the hell out of the ball with it. The blade 3-iron is like a get out of jail free card for me if I wind up on the right side blocked by trees. I use it to hit a variety of high and low cut shots from 140 out to 180 that I just can't do with a hybrid. From 150 I can start the ball 45* left of the target and work it back. Its a shot I practice because there are a couple of holes on my home course where I tend to find myself in a situation where I need it.

Well I ended up getting a 21* Titleist 585H. Should be arriving for Christmas. Got it for a steal of a deal at $29.00 (used, in great shape).

Next, it's time to pick out a 3 wood and a putter!
