If that is indeed your swing speed (aka 'club head speed'), then a stiff flex shaft is the recommended shaft. Of course, different manufacturers will have a different amount of flex with the same flex designation. Also, for some players a flex different that what is recommended by these static charts works best. This is were a reputable professional fitter can help.

well didn't he say his iron SS was 98? Would that be grounds for x stiff?

wouldn't go Xstiff. By the way, which iron is 98mph. My guess is either 6 or 7. If that is the case, then borderline stiff/xstiff. Would always error on the "softer" side. When you get you 6 or 7 iron speed measured it is on the Y chromosome to go all out. You rarely go greater than 90% with these clubs on the course (unless you are hitting into the wind uphill) Then again, Hogan has been quoted as saying swing easier into the wind, and harder with the wind. PS is this a joke? I can almost rationalize what he is saying when factoring spin rate.

Your iron swing is actually faster than the average for most men's DRIVER speed.... (See chart below)

Make sure you have a pro confirm your swing speed...(as well as tempo) to confirm your swing characteristics....and he will be able to make a recommendation on flex AND weight for you. Good luck!

There are no standards, so you will have to go hit a bunch. With your ss I'd say X stiff soft stepped once or twice, but I'm guessing. If you have the bux KB Tour, Project X, Black Gold (probably the most affordable of the 3). Both the PX and BG's will probably have stiffer profile that the KB Tours. There is always the good old reliable stand by, DG's S400's.

IMO, the easiest shafts to dial in are PX's and DG's, but thats just my limited opinion. Rule of thumb: If you are a swinger go down 1 flex and hard step once or twice. If you are a hitter, (and thats my impression) go up 1 flex and soft step once or twice. This is if the standard set up didn't feel well.
