I know a pro would be better ding this than me but I like experimenting. I have the epoxy, heat gun, heat gloves, ferrule, new shaft & grip, old shaft still in place. Anything I need to keep a eye out for from your own experience. From googling seems I just heat the head up till the epoxy breakes down, pull out the old shaft, clean out any remaing epoxy and fit the new shaft, am I missing anything?

How are you gonna pull the head? Are you gonna keep or re-use the shaft you pull?

what kinda shaft we talking about here??? graphite or steel? if its graphite you will definately want a shaft puller, steel you can get away without it. you can check out the golfsmith.com clubmaking videos if you are a newb.

I think you're supposed to heat then wait, heat then wait, heat then wait...I don't think you're supposed to just heat the epoxy all at once. Pulling a graphite shaft could be a problem too. You may want a shaft puller anyway, as it makes it much easier. Just remember to cut the new shaft 1/8 of an inch long to compensate for the grip plug (top of the grip).

As a earlier poster put it, which type of shaft are you pulling? Steel, no problems, use a butain tourch; it will be noticablly faster. Graphite, I take my graphite shafts to my favorite golf shop and they pull it for 5 bux, then I do the rest of the work; I've ruined 3 graphite shafts and I don't like incurring that type of expense. IMO, if you pull a graphite shaft correctly you can use it again. I have a couple that I've reshafted 3 times. I'm think'n thats about all you can get away with though. Good luck

Your description of how to reshaft left out some many key processes (like Shaft prepping, trimming etc.

I recommend you review this link below:

Afterwards, if you have any questions, please feel free to holler...either here of feel free to send an email/Pm

Good luck!

Thanks for the help. Did the reshafting at the wknd. About 3 mins with the heat gun and I was wondering would I be able to hoist the club out? ( This was the factory fitted shaft ) Turned the club upside down and the head slides off ... lol, job done. Cleaned the hosel out and had it reBonded in 5 mins. Tried the new setup out on the range and the improvement is vast, almost feels like I've cheated. Defo gonna try new shaft/grip setup on my irons if for no other reason than to say I did it :)

I have a part time club repair business.   When I buy clubmaking equipment I look for high end used tools.   I don’t have a shop so everything has to be easily mounted on a folding workbench for easy storage.  I‘ve been looking for a head puller but could not find any decent equipment available at a reasonable price.  I saw the BT Puller on Craigslist for $165 and bought it.  It’s a heavy duty unit made with a steel frame and a hydraulic puller.  As a test, I took a half dozen old clubs and pulled the heads.  Fast and easy.  I strongly recommend this product.

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
