Hey all. So I am a beginner and the current driver I have is not for me, its a 7.5*, fade version, and I already have some slicing problems and the shaft is stiff and I really need a regular shafted flex. So I am trying to get some opinions on what my best option for a used Regular flex 10* range of driver off of Ebay. And to narrow it down even more for you, I'm only looking to spend $20-$30 with shipping...ya, I know I don't give you much to work with, but I'm in college and I'd rather be spending my money on rounds.

I have checked out ebay and so far I am seeing older Callaway Big Berthas, Ping Zing's and TaylorMade Burners that are used and fall under my criteria. I know these clubs don't utilize todays technologies, but I think that a driver with a higher loft and correct shaft flex will greatly benefit me. Any opinions?

Here are some of the listings that have caught my eye:

Thanks in advance for your time, sorry I have such a narrow range to look at.

I would go to a local store and hit some drivers if at all possible. Thats the best way to see how you hit the driver and how it feels

This is a good idea, however I was only able to hit the newer Drivers, which I cannot afford at the moment. I did hit the regular flexed drivers a lot better though

please don't buy any of the drivers you posted. they will be harder for you to hit than your current driver. go to a shop with a used section and look for stuff there. atleast get something that is 460cc and of modern technology, it will benefit you more than cheaping out on those old, old drivers. you will find alot of good clubs for $50 and under.

How about getting a decent 3-wood rather than the drivers you had listed?

I have an older 3 wood which is not in my signature. Its a Javithon and its actually made mostly of wood! I can hit it fairly well, I do use this often instead of my current driver since it is unpredictable

This is interesting I may look more into this, Thanks!

Don't be too afraid of getting an older driver because it's not up to the maximum size allowed by the USGA or whatever. I have a friend who is starting to get serious about golf who still uses an older Callaway driver that he hits just fine, in fact, he's longer off the tee than most of the people we play with using their new drivers with huge club heads. You can still hit good drives with an older club so don't be fooled into thinking that you've got to have newer technology in order to succeed.

Also, if you have a Sports Authority store near you see if they have any Tommy Armour Ayrtime in stock. They are selling them on the website for $29.95. I like mine very much, and it was actually on the Golf Digest Hot list a few years ago.

a 460cc driver doesnt make it any easier to hit the ball. The bigger the head there is more twisting. The 460cc label is all marketing why do you think some people it a 3 wood better than a driver the head is smaller and has a shorter shaft.

Thanks for all the input! I ended up purchasing a TaylorMade Burner Bubble 10.5* driver with a regular flex shaft on ebay for $23. I will let you all know how it hits (or should I say how I hit it) when I get it.

Here is the ebay item number if anyone is interested: 200296581934

So great ebay seller. I got the driver today and its SO much better. Even when I sliced it, it went straighter than with the old driver. The old driver would take a 70-80 degrees to the right where this is like 20-30 degrees when I slice. I also noticed that contact with the ball felt solid every time, where with the old driver it felt like I was hitting off the toe. Thanks again for all of your advice!

if you want a NEW cheap driver that is decent, do a search on ebay for Maxfli Powermax. those are going for DIRT cheap $20-$30 BRAND NEW and they are decent drivers. a buddy of mine has one and he stopped using his Callaway X 460 because he likes that Maxfli one better.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
