I find a pair of golf shoes i like but they aren't waterproof!! I play normally 2 times a week and go to the range once a week during the summer. Naturally i only do these when conditions are good but i do play in the early morning when the ground is wet from sprinklers going and dew. During the high school golf season we play in some rain but even with waterproof shoes peoples feet still get wet. So my question is are waterproof golf shoes really nesecary?

Well, I got non-waterproof ones because the comfortable ones were cheaper than comfortable waterproof shoes. I figured I'd be ok because before that I was always playing in regular tennis shoes that were not waterproof and I'd never had much of an issue.

However... I live in Southern California and I've never been faced with having to play in anything more than morning dew (and once dodging sprinklers when I teed off 15 minutes early as the first group in the morning).

I used to have a pair of Nike 'sneaker' type shoes that weren't waterproof and I hated them with a passion. At the time they were the only golf shoes I had and when playing in early morning dew my feet would get soaked and be wet the rest of the day. Waterproof golf shoes are a must. I play in the rain or on very wet courses many times a year and sometimes the turf is soaked with lots of standing water, but my feet do not get wet at all with my waterproof shoes. Another instance that you'll wish you had waterproof shoes is those cold days when ground is wet (and in PA I know you'll be playing spring and fall days that are downright cold - not to mention if you play in winter). After the shoes soak up that cold moisture, you'll be miserable the rest of the day, no matter how warm and comfortable the rest of your body is.

For warm summer days when there is no dew on ground, the course is dry and the course doesn't have the sprinkers on, non-waterproof shoes are OK because they tend to be cooler and breathe better, but that's the only time. Or if you decide to move to desert...

They are the new footjoy green joys. I have the old ones and i swear they came with the one year waterproof gaurentee thingy, but according to fj's website and other places my old shoes have the same type of material as the new ones do. I have played two years of high school golf in my old ones and never had a real big problem with wetness except for when playing in 40 degree weather with pouring rain and i don't think any shoe would have kept my feet dry in those conditions.

Every pair of shoes I've owned has leaked - so I just get ones that look good now!

The dryjoys have been the best so far but still leak. Adidas aren't great. Puma - i have a goretex pair but keeping them for the summer annd the range.

I have owned 2 pair of FJ GreenJoys, that look like tennis shoes and I have only gotten a wet foot once, slid into the creek trying to pick up a ball. I've been first off on the course a few times and the dew has no affected these shoes. Played after the rain a few times and no problems there either. Only thing I have a problem with is the inside around the heel doesn't last very long, may be the way I take them off, Like tennis shoes, I never untied the first pair and they lasted over one season, my new one's ($39.95) at Golfsmith have been untied and no sign of break down and I walk 75% of the time.

i've had 3 different pairs of FJ's.. two were "water-proof" and the other was non water proof.. none of them kept my feet from getting wet when it was rainy/muddy out on the course.

i just go with whatever looks good and is comfortable these days.

Play a lot in wet conditions, whether wet, cold spring or early spring and summer mornings with lots of dew (and occasionally in rain). I wouldn't wear anything but waterproof and the Footjoy Contours I have did not leak at all. Was spectator at two day tournament and rained ALL day first day and most of the second, no problems. Now, I wore them a lot last year and am looking to get another pair because I liked them so well, and at some point they won't be as waterproof, but my exeperience was a postive one. Have had my share of waterproof hunting boots as well, just depends on the brand and the boot. Some actually do the job\ and there is no subsitute for dry dogs.

I have sprayed WD40 on the seams of my golf shoes just before I play to help water proof the shoes.

I wear Adidas shoes (don't know which model, probably discontinued) that aren't advertised as waterproof but I am amazed at how good a job they do at keeping my feet dry. I play year round in Portland OR and I walk, so I speak with a little authority. I really don't do much to them, a little saddle soap every few months.

In the hunting section of WalMart you can find a $5 can of waterproof spray. I apply this to my FootJoy DryJoys once they start to soak a bit. Works for me
