Do you think it is possible to get a 4 Hybrid to replace the 3i, 4i and 5i

here is what is in my bag now...

Driver Cleveland 9.5*
3 Wood Taylormade Burner
then was thinking
put in a 4 Hybird Taylormade Rescue and take out my 3i, 4i and 5i
6i-P Mizuno MP60
52*, 56*, 60*
Putter

Does this makes sense???

if it is 200 yards I hit my 3 wood soft...
if it is 170 ish hit the 4 Hybird soft and 185ish I hit it flush...

or is that just dumb

My 3 wood goes about 220 carry

That's too big a yardage gap to fill with 1 club. For most brands, a 4H will be close to the same distance as a 3 iron, but that's a big gap (probably 30+ yards) to go from that to a 6 iron. Yea, you might think you could hit a 'soft' 4H to compensate, but in almost all cases you want to be hitting a full shot whenever possible, especially with longer clubs. Hitting 'soft' shots often goes very badly. You could choke up and still use full swing, but still that gap is too big. For that gap you should probably have at least 2 clubs. I currently carry a 4H and 5H which sorta replaces the 3, 4 and 5 irons, but even I have a gap between 5H and 6I. Larger gaps are more OK in long irons than in short irons, though.

Good advice so far. It looks like to me you have 2 slots left in your bag. First off I'd add the 5 iron back in the bag. Or if you don't have one add a 5 hybrid. If you don't have a 5 iron already, you might also consider an GI/SGI 5 iron as a transition club between your players irons and the hybrid.

Then I'd think about a 5/7 wood or 2/3 hybrid to fill in the gap at the top. It looks like you have a 200 yard club and a 178 club (that's half way between your easy 170 and perfect 185). I don't think 22 yards is a massive gap for the top of the set, but since you have the room why not fill that gap. You have the bottom of the set covered already. I'd make sure it was a club I could hit high and straight. Unless you are particularly skilled with your 3 wood off the deck, this club will probably be your longest club for those occasional long range shots. Since they don't come up that often, I wouldn't be in any great hurry. Just shop around, but start your search with hybrids or woods that match your current hybrid and fairway wood.

Good Luck!

I've been considering doing something simular: dropping 3 & 4 irons and replacing with a 4 hybrid. This will make room for a gap wedge.

I can see covering two slots with a hybrid....but I think it'd be a bit much to cover 3 slots....that would be a huge gap.

I think you're asking a lot to get one club to replace 3 in the high end of the bag . I'd look into getting at least two and possibly three hybrids . You might be better served by dropping a wedge and going with ~ 6 degrees gaps at the bottom of the bag . IMO it's far easier to make a partial wedge swing than a partial swing in a club that requires a lot of swing speed to get it to work properly . Hope it helps ... -- K.

IMO, its a bit much to ask 1 hybrid to replace your 3, 4 and 5 irons. If you dont hit your long-medium irons well, Id suggest replacing them with 3, 4 and 5 hybrids.
Another option would be to replace your irons with game-improvement or even super game-improvement irons. MP-60s really arent the best irons for someone who is a 25 handicap just because they arent as forgiving as GI/SGI irons.
IMO, youd play better with a set of MX-100s MX-200s or MX-950s.

Why do you only want to play with 12 clubs? Why not just get a 4H and keep two of your irons? To dial in distances you are going to learn to grip down to go shorter and drill it to go farther, and why would you want to do that?

You could probably do that but you are definite gonna need a transition club in between the three-wood and 4-hybrid... perhaps a 5-wood... or 7-wood... just to get your 200 yard club... but honestly how many 200 yard shots do you hit in a round... probably not that many would be my guess...

Actually , the shorter hitter you are , the more 200 yard shots you may be looking at in a round , depending on which tees you end up playing from ... -- K.

maybe on par 5s or long par 3s shorter hitters hit 200 yard shots a lot... I hardly hit a 200 yard shot to lay-up on a par-five... and my 200-yard club is a five-iron
