Previously I had a 907D2 8.5* with the UST Proforce V2 75 gram shaft in it, the new 909D3 is also 8.5* with the same shaft but in 85 grams.....both are X flex. My idea behind getting the D3 was to lower my ball flight a bit but not lose any distance.

Man, the feel and sound of the 909's are incredible they certainly don't have the clank that all the new drivers these days seem to have. I hit the ball very high normally and the D3 completely knocks my ball flight down. I was carrying the ball just about as far as with the 907 and it was hitting the ground and running out. I'll get a better idea of distance between the two when I get out on the course this weekend and test the two side by side.

For those that criticized the 907's, I would give the 909 a shot because it's a completely different feel, trajectory and sound than the 907.

I also much prefer the smaller 909D3 clubhead to the 909D2 as well, I hit both before ordering mine. I have an easier time turning the ball over with the D3 as well.

Needless to say I am very happy with my purchase.

Now just to figure out which 3 wood to buy...

So you got the 440cc with the proforce shaft? Did titliest upcharge you for it? How does it work for you in that head vs the voodoo, for instance?

Kinda OT, but ive been using the 65 gram V2 in my 905R - i knew they made heavier shafts but never fully understood why one would prefer the heavier one or what it does for your ballflight.

and yes..the 907's where the biggest peices of crap ever invented...

I like a slightly heavier shaft. If I go too light I start making poorer contact.

Yes, I think the upcharge was like $70. (A ripoff I know, I already started a thread a few weeks back about it). The proforce (I've only hit the 75 gram and 85 gram) lauches lower than the voodoo. I only hit the voodoo briefly, it felt fine just launched too high for my swing.

The reason I use a heavier shaft is two fold 1) It lowers my ball flight and produces less spin 2) I have a pretty quick transition at the top of my swing and anything I can do to slow that down helps. An 85 gram shaft helps me slow my transition just a bit to help me get better contact consistently. I actually really liked my 907, I just wanted to lower my ball flight and get less spin. Mission accomplished.

mmm..neat. I never thought about it that way in regards to the transition. I hit the ball medium/high already. Ill definatly try a heavier shaft and see what it does. I want a 909, but im so comfortable with the V2 shaft im having second thoughts switching. Just trying to get all the info i can.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
