For some reason my Taylormade Burner driver feels quite heavy compared to some other drivers I've held, and I'm concerned that this weight affects my ability to swing, because swinging a heavy object is alot harder than swinging a lighter one, and a lighter driver increase my clubhead speed. I have to swing pretty fast with the burner to get the ball off the ground. Should I replace the shaft of my burner with a lighter less stiff shaft? Right now the shaft is the stock SuperFast (ironically) 50 gram shaft.

You're kidding right? The Burner is one of the lightest and longest clubs. 50 grams is light for a shaft. It's all in your head. The only thing is it might be to stiff.

I don't know which year or make of the Burner you have. I agree that it is one of the lightest drivers there is. But I can understand why it feels heavy. They keep making those things longer each year. They are up to 46 1/4" this year. That length, regardless of static weight or swing weight, just makes them feel so unwieldy (sp?). Also, on a whole the swingweight is a good bit heavier than a lot of stock drivers. The new Burner is listed at D4. Unless I'm mistaken, a couple of years ago the Burner had a D6 swingweight.

To the original question. I wouldn't replace the shaft with a lighter one. If anything, I'd go with a heavier and shorter one. I believe it's the length that's messing with you more than the weight. But I have to be honest, I was never a fan of the Burner, so I am admittedly jaded.

Good Luck!

i would
1) cut down the current shaft
2) or go with a heavier, normal length shaft

The sumo isn't that bad, if you want a heavy driver...come pick up my r7 425. Its suppose to be heavy though, because its made for control.

You could always try something different and throw in a counterweight like a Tour Lock Pro ... could completely change the feel of your driver for the better -- I have a 20 gm. weight in my Hibore XL and have loved it from Day 1 ... -- K.

    • Does Justin Thomas have a massively underrated short game? It seems every time I look up he's hitting it close from a tough lie after short siding himself. What masterful touch

    • I enjoyed the A-B-C-D scramble we did at Kittyhawk before it shut down. Yes. The point was to meet the other members and get the season kicked off. Nobody took it too seriously. At least with that group, cheating wasn't a big issue.  As the D part of A-B-C-D, I enjoyed getting to play with one of the Association's top players. One year I played with the city champ. Man could he hit a ball.  It probably isn't something I'd want to do more than once a year, but it has its place.
