From Fox Sports:

When Peyton Manning and his fellow Pro Bowlers pranked Broncos QB Jay Cutler by tossing him into the hotel pool, they forgot one thing. He has diabetes and his blood sugar monitor got fried in the pool. "It was a bad audible on our part," Manning said.

EDIT: The thread title should be Pro

At least he probably had the cash to go get another one someplace right away!

Of all the major sports (including hockey), the Pro Bowl has to be one of the dumbest "all star games" out there. Does anyone really watch the thing?

This story about the sugar monitor may be the most interesting thing to happen at the Pro Bowl.

I used to, years ago but it's probably been a good 10 or 15 years since I really paid any attention to it. And Cutler likely has a backup monitor or two with him (well, one less now! LOL).

the only way to make the pro bowl worth watching is to throw a little cash on a side or a total. $$$ turns unwatchable events into edge of your seat thrillers.

That's funny. I'm just glad nothing serious happened because of it.

At least football knows it's all-star game is a farce. They could be like baseball and try to inject some artificial meaning into the game. That would just make it worse, IMO.

Who the hell could forget Jay Cutler has diabetes? Has there ever been a Denver game on tv that they didn't mention it at least twice?

Manning's a great QB, but he's about as smart as a box of hair.

next season the pro bowl is during the week between the confrence championships and the superbowl at the superbowl venue. pretty horrible idea imo, meaning none of the players from the superbowl teams will play in the pro bowl.

That's actually fine by me. They have more important things to do, after all, and at least it'll give people some football in a weird "dead" weekend.

I still won't watch, but my bet is it'll help viewership numbers.

Boys will be Boys!!!!!

Peyton Manning has to be the classiest player in the NFL...I just saw a special on him on ESPN about how he has sent hand written letters from him to some of the players who have recently retired congraduating them on there retirement and complimenting them on the way they played the game.

Unheard on in today's world.

I'm a old Baltimore Colts fan so obviously I hate the Indianapolis Colts because of Bob Irsay and the move back in 84 but even I admire Peyton Manning and what he has accomplished. I think Johnny Unitas would even be proud of him if he was alive today....

The pro bowl was always meant to be a perk for the players and their wives/families - a free trip to Hawaii. This was a big deal when salaries weren't as high as they are today. Before the Pro Bowl, the NFL (pre-merger) champs used to play the college all-stars after the end of the season. The pros didn't win them all.

I've been to a couple of Pro Bowls (got on the sideline during the game). The players are loose and just having a good time. Who knows in this day and age if the game will even continue. I think the new format (starting next year) is the beginning of the end.

Anyway, one story. 1994 - The NFC was trailing and SF's Ricky Watters was on the sideline yammering to his eye-rolling teammates about NFC coach Switzer: "That guy doesn't want to win! If he wanted to win, he'd put me in there! I'll run all over these fools! I can't win if I am on the bench! Man, this guy just doesn't even care!" Yeah, yeah, yeah... the back who was on the field? Barry Sanders.

The thing that makes the Pro Bowl bad for me is this...

If you make the Pro Bowl as an offensive player, you have the ability and the opportunity to rip off a 80 yard run or make a scrambling, improv pass and catch. You might get to run some reverses and half back passes. That sounds like a lot of fun.

But what if you make the Pro Bowl as a down and dirty, hard hitting and back breaking LB, CB, DT, what ever? Your game is hurting people, smashing some mouths and driving some QBs in the ground. It seems those kind of guys have their hands tied to some extent in a game that really means nothing. Nobody wants to see someone like a Ray Lewis cripple another player in the Pro Bowl game. I think the only acceptable way to shine as a defensive player in this game is with an interception. I'm just guessing those guys are making a lot of safe tackles and not really playing wide open. Basically, I mean they don't get to show their game. JMHO

Same thing in NHL All Star game. Nobody goes to get injured, after all, and that's why the games end up being 12-11 or whatever.

    • No rain while I was out (9am to 11:30am). Fairly pleasant for a late November day in the Mitten.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-25 Did the BAD Challenge and hit a bunch more other little shots. This was one of the closer shots.
    • 70 today. The number looks good but, the course is a par 67 (5,110 yards, 64.3/115.). While the 70 took quite a few good shots to achieve, I am not counting that as shooting my age.
    • Played our town’s executive course this morning. Everything is closing but for now Huron Hills remains open. #13 is shaped like an upside down backwards L (dogleg left). Only 231 yard par 4. Dogleg has a tree guarding the corner and a sand bunker guards the green for those cutting the dogleg. Tiny green. About 10 years ago or more I would try to cut the dogleg. The hole is so short that even if one tangled with the tree or was bunkered, par was likely and birdie was still on the table. Now in my 70’s, I just hit it straight and try to wedge it close for birdie. Today I screwed up and pulled my drive. I wandered around a bit when my ball was not in the bunker. Finally located it on the approach to the green. Almost chipped in and tapped in the 2 inches for birdie. Best unintentional shot of the week. 😲
