I just purchased a callaway FT-i driver, even though i was kind of against the square headed drivers. The driver i've been hitting for the past four years was a Titliest 983K with the Fujikura Speeder 77g S shaft. So when i went to get fitted for a new driver, because i figured i had been robbimg myself of some technology, and boy was i right, the 983 really bombs them out there, but my misses tend to be off the toe, which robs me of alot of distance( like a loss of 30 yards) but with the misses on the ft-i i only lost about 10-15 yards. The one thing that i thought was weird is that he put me in a reg. flex 56g 586 speeder shaft. Do you think this is the right shaft? being such a drastic change

Is that the Black and Red one? How do you like it thus far? I was thinking about getting the IQ.

The head on it is black, if that's what you were refering to. I tested the FT-iQ
before hitting the FT-i, but it was a little to pricey for me($549 plus tax), then he suggested the FT-i, which was on sale for half the price, and i actually hit it better, although the sound will take some getting use to. I have not had a chance to play it yet because i live in Canada, but believe me iam getting the itch big time

hmmm... I didnt really notice the sound but of course I used to have a Nike Sasquatch and the sound from that thing would make any drive sound quiet.

I am trying to debate if i should get a FT-i or FT-5. Considering that I am still fairly new to the game (only 2 years), I just want to hit my drives straight and without losing too much distance. I will head over to golfsmith to test them out today. Any suggestions?

The FT-5 might get you a little more distance, but the FT-i is by far alot more forgiving and gets them out there straight...most of the time:). So if your looking for accuracy over distance, i would go with the FT-i.

so I just came back from golfsmith, with the new FT-i. man i was skeptical when before i went, but just like everyone said, it goes straight every single shot. I also tried the new FT-IQ, which is very nice at well, but i wasn't about to spend 500bucks on a driver. btw, i got the FT-i for 179, cant beat that price!!

Is that fact or myth (who's to really know) that the square drivers are shorter than your "regular" driver? I have demoed the FT-i and I didn't notice a shorter distance at all.

Just got my ft-i on friday as well. With all my previous drivers, I might of hit 1 good shot in 4 but with the FT-I, that number is closer to 1 in two. Something I noticed though, was that my distance (and ball loft) changed dramatically depending on what part of the face made contact. I had several drives that were in the 270-290 areas, but several others became moon shots that only went 210-230. The moon shots still went relatively straight which is still an major improvement over what I was doing before.
Can't wait to get back to the range to use it again!
Callaway pre-owned has these really cheap; I paid $150 and it looks brand new.

i had the same experience when i went to the range yesterday. I had a few sky shots in the beginning, but at least they were dead straight. I had to change my swing a bit to eliminate it. but overall, i am in love with the club. it has added at least 10-15yds to my drives, and they are dead straight

    • I think in fairness what he means is Tommy's chances to win PGA Tour events are fairly similar in number to Rory's chances to win the Masters. I don't think he's remotely saying that Tommy and Rory are in the same league. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I took the comment as meaning if he keeps giving himself chances to win then eventually he will win one. Rory had a thing in his head about the Masters and won anyway. Tommy has a thing in his head about PGA Tour events. They do seem fairly analogous to me.
    • Don't get me wrong, I like TF from a nice-guy-next-door perspective but I was surprised at the nerves he showed on the 2nd putt on 17th. That was unmistakably a stroke of a player who had already submitted to the writing on the wall. Honestly I would not expect that out of a veteran tour player. I would have liked to continue rooting for him but gotta see a bit more fight from him. Rory could be reasonably accused of being a head case but he is a fighter. Big difference.
    • Um no. Rory Wins PGA Tour 29, EU 19, Majors 5, FedEx Cup 3 Tommy PGA Tour 0, EU 7, Majors 0, FedEx 0 He may win eventually, but he’s not in the same league as Rory.
    • Like Colin Montgomerie? 😛
    • It's rarely 95%. At some courses it's not even 90%.
