I would agree with the 5 wood over a 3 wood here. Maybe even a hybrid because it will be more versitile. The higher loft and shorter shaft will be easier to control. I think control is more important than distance when you are trying to improve your game...assuming that is a goal. Which brings me to my next question because I do not know what is in your bag.

Dang. Forgot to change handicap in user cp. From 100 yards in, I'm golden. It's the 100-200 yard shots that mess up my scoring.

Then I would go with a hybrid personally. Demo a couple and get a feel for them before you commit. There are so many good clubs available.

On par 3's at 200 yards remember you can choke down on the club and hit your driver 200 yards with your regular swing. Off the fairway hit the 3 or 5 wood, I like the Taylor Made R7 they are easy to hit off the deck.

I would first try hitting your driver off the deck with a slightly open club face and aimming left of the target at least once for fun to see if you can do it.

Never have seen someone like a hybrid more than you and the 5dx. I take it you REALLY like it.

its true. ive never really been sold on a club as much as i have with the 5DX's. they are the best hybrids i have ever hit. solid, straight, long and forgiving. i was simply amazed the first time i used them. and i immediately went out and bought one afterwards. i might get another one too and replace my 5 wood

Are you wanting to carry 200yrds or total distance of 200yrds?

Hitting a 5w to carry 200yrds is probably going to end up being 220 if it hits the green. Which is better then being short and usually wet but being too long behind a green is usually just as bad.

Hybrids tend to have more hang time and thus less roll. They are also easier to hit off of bad lies.

I myself only have a 4w, I did have a 3w and a 5w but because I carry an extra wedge I dropped the 3w, 5w and 3i and went with the 4w and picked up a hybrid. The 4w is probably the straightest club in the bag off the tee but I have some problems hitting it even off the perfect of lies on the fairway. The Hydrid I have is a no brainer, the shots come out pretty much the same regardless of the lie.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
