I try to pick an appropriate "last song" in my car to psych me up. The last song I hear is often the one that gets stuck in my head, so heaven forbid it's some lame song that has a horrible rhythm.

The last one that worked really well was "Humble Neighborhoods" by Pink from the album "Try This" (2003). I don't use songs quite the same way you do, but if you're asking about music, I like R.E.M., Toad the Wet Sprocket, Live, etc.

I usually like to putt on the practrice green with my Ipod on, which for me personally, helps me to focus more...and it also helps in that i dont get distracted easily.

As for a song, if im looking to get PUMPED before a match It'll fall along the lines of Rage Against the Machine or Nirvana

If i just wanna be relaxed, it will mnost likely be Pearl Jam, Audioslave, or Jimi Hendrix (I'm a guitar player too, so its appreciated)

Music does help me, but if i get one stuck in my head like a ball in a St. Andrews Bunker, I'm in trouble because it can enter my mind while im trying to sink a put or hit a key shot....so i guess it goes both ways....

Yeah, if there's a song that'll have you jerking at the ball thats the one. "Muh-muh-muh-my second three jack."

    • I think you're underestimating the lateral accuracy of mid/high handicaps even with wedges in hand.
    • Option 1 for 8 iron and above. (150 yards and above), Option 2 for 9 iron and below. To pick one, since 75% or my irons are 9 iron or less (I play my rounds at 6,000-6,200 yards 90% times), I would settle for Option 2. Basically under Option 1 a 15 yards dispersion left or right for short irons and wedges would be terrible. I mean who wants to hit half wedges 15 yards left or right? That would make me quit golf. But OTOH the +/-10% (10 yards long/short variance but dead straight) would be manageable.
    • Day 234: Quick range session. Working on lower body stuff in the backswing. Looking slightly better, but going to need more work. I do think I lost a bit of my previous wrist stuff in the backswing while practicing, so something to keep an eye on.
    • First option, easily. ± 15 yards with an 8I is unacceptably poor. Every iron would basically overlap two other irons plus a little into the other one (max of one, min of the one two irons away).
    • I'd still take the first option. Knowing exactly how far your ball is going to carry every single time is huge.  Plus an average dispersion of 30yds isn't that big, that's still going to result in the overwhelming majority of your shots on the green.
