Iacas,

I noticed that you guys are running a contest here on the site for 2 Leupold range finders. I think that is a great idea, and I commend you for your generosity.

I am also a member over at The Hackers Paradise, and I have switched my time to that website as I feel it is a better site, although this one here is also a solid site.

But I wonder where you suddenly got the urge to do a contest and give away a few rangefinders. I say this because, as you now I have been a member here for a year and a half, and in the past if you can keep the product you either keep it for your self, or give it to another staff member. Never have you ever given the product away, you may have sold the product in the Marketplace, but never have you given it away for free.

Now I get to the mention of The Hackers Paradise (THP). I know that site was started by a former member here at TST, and you two had different views on subjects so the other man left. Since the beginning at THP, they have given away every club that they reviewed and were permitted to keep. I have wondered if maybe you have seen this, seen the reaction of not only the companies, but the growth of members, and "stolen" the idea for the contests. I may be wrong, but that is just what I see on the subject.

Ban me from the site if you would like, or put me in the "penalty box," but you will basically just be censoring the website because you don't agree with someone else's statements, which is wrong.

Have a good day.

Umm, wow. That is absurd on a lot of levels, not the least of which is Iacas' explanation of the genesis of the give-away in the stickied thread where it's introduced (he was approached by the company).

However you feel about giving away vs keeping vs whatever with freebies-for-review, website censorship, etc, posting a disrespectful, accusatory post like this on a public forum is pretty damn childish.

In the bag:

Explain how that was disrespectful? I shared my feelings on the topic. You just shared your feelings on my post, does that make your post disrespectful? No. It's just your opinion. I think your talking this in the wrong way.

Oh and last time I checked I did say this site is a good site, and I have been a member here for 1 1/2 years. I'm just curious if iacas got the idea for the contest after seeing the reactions of various companies and/or the increase in members at THP. I feel your the childish one for attacking me because of my opinions. Again I think you are taking this the wrong way.

Your post is like a stick in the eye.........it would have been more appropriate in a personal message IMHO.

I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

I agree. It's between you and iacas.

And you are going to tell me that you wouldn't keep a club that was free? If a company gives me a club with my specs for free, I would keep it if they let me. I don't think it has to do with being selfish or anything.

But I wonder where you suddenly got the urge to do a contest and give away a few rangefinders.

I didn't suddenly get the urge. I explained that already in another thread, and I've had the range finders since early December. And Leupold came up with the idea a month or so before that.

I say this because, as you now I have been a member here for a year and a half, and in the past if you can keep the product you either keep it for your self, or give it to another staff member.

1) Any equipment I or the rest of the staff receive for review is deemed to be for personal use only. We aren't supposed to and we're often not allowed to give it away. Even if we could, why would someone want a USED piece of equipment?

2) 90% of the time, with the company's permission, I give my equipment to a local golf club that gives equipment to underprivileged children so they can take up the game. The other 10% of the time I give it to a friend or keep it. The staff does similarly. Our reviews take a fair amount of effort. 3) Apparently you've missed the Scorecard giveaways... 4) I haven't visited Josh's site for several months. Couldn't care less what they're doing there. I certainly know they didn't invent "contests."
and you two had different views on subjects so the other man left.

No, that's not it at all, but I really don't care enough to share the details. If "different views" means "lying is okay" versus "lying is bad" then sure.

I may be wrong, but that is just what I see on the subject.

Hey, you finally got one thing right: you're wrong.

Ban me from the site if you would like, or put me in the "penalty box," but you will basically just be censoring the website because you don't agree with someone else's statements, which is wrong.

Grow up.

    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
    • I saw this comment made in a golf article... "Most golfers stand over a 4- or 5-iron still negotiating with themselves. They think about how hard to swing, whether they have the right club, if they have the aim correct and more. It’s a lot to deal with and long irons punish the “half-in” golf swing." I am not sure the "most golfers" is correct regarding the bolded part. I can understand if there is a bunker, water, and/or OB that a lot of golfers would be fixated on that. I am not sure that leads to ending up more times there. Pending your level in golf, the variance is so large in outcomes, it could be just with in the expected outcomes. I can understand if have a big lake on the right side of the hole being one of the most terrifying shots for right-handed amateur golfers.  I am not sure many golfers are standing over the ball talking to themselves, "Ok, maybe I should step back and pull the 4-iron. Am I lined up right? Oh, the wind came up, should I swing harder? What am I going to have for dinner tonight, maybe steak. (Joking, somewhat 😛)" A question is that how much chatter do you get while standing over the ball. Are you questioning the everything about your golf shot?
