Hey guys, im about to buy a set of 8 project x flighted shafts for my new iron heads (titleist 695 cb). I was wondering, how much does the length increase by when installing the head onto the shaft? I want mine to be .25 inches over std. and i need to know how long the 5i shaft is going to increase b when adding the head to it, so i can get my 38.25 inches.

Install the shaft then butt cut to the length you want.

won't this increase the stiffness in the shaft?

This is how they are meant to be installed. You need to cut a piece of wood to 60* and buy a 48" ruler. Put the down side of the 60* block where the ruler begins and measure installed and cut to length. These ar tapered tip shafts I presume?

Unless it's something REALLY weird...you NEVER cut an iron shaft at the tip.

Are these tapered or parallel tip shafts? It makes a difference. Sounds like you need to get a professional to do this for you.

I'm really confused as to what the question is.

PX's usually come precut if I'm not mistaken. Flighted shafts, I'm almost possitive, come precut to a certain length (.25 over standard if you order them that way).

Tapered tip, you wouldn't cut the shaft from the tip. Parallel tip, you would. It controls flex and kickpoint. To get "proper" flex and kick point in your 9-iron, you should cut the tip xx inches. Same thing with every iron. Then trim off the top to fit your desired length.

I don't know what PX's are - tapered or parallel - because I've never installed them, but make sure they fit your iron head bore.

My original question was, how much does the shaft length increase by when you install a club. I read somewhere that it usually increases by .75 inches after installation. Look at the above link, it says the 5i shaft is 37.25 inches, i thought 38 inches was std. for a 5i, so does it mean that the club head adds .75 inches to the length?

It's gonna vary from head to head. Bore depth and playing position matter as far as measurements. I use a 60* angle standard to measure all clubs I build. 2nd a "Unitized tip" is a new one on me, not sure about that. Ask what the Tip size is. Otherwise I'd pass on those just because I'm not sure what you're getting.

    • Ah.. my regular weekend league. Lol Scrambles are fine. Usually there's charity involved. So there's that. There are much worse events Im forced to attend twice a year.
    • Does Justin Thomas have a massively underrated short game? It seems every time I look up he's hitting it close from a tough lie after short siding himself. What masterful touch
    • I freaking hate them. Too expensive, cheaters, food sucks, too dependent on weather, I keep telling myself never do it again but I'm a dummy
    • I enjoyed the A-B-C-D scramble we did at Kittyhawk before it shut down. Yes. The point was to meet the other members and get the season kicked off. Nobody took it too seriously. At least with that group, cheating wasn't a big issue.  As the D part of A-B-C-D, I enjoyed getting to play with one of the Association's top players. One year I played with the city champ. Man could he hit a ball.  It probably isn't something I'd want to do more than once a year, but it has its place.
